Intro
1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Salvation
This is a word we use a lot
We talk about Jesus being a savior
The one who could save us
What is salvation and why do we need it?
What is it

Salvation is a free gift of God
Delivering us from the dead person we once were
to be made alive with Christ
Instead of being left for dead we gain an inheritance with Christ
Ok cool why do I need this?
Why do we need salvation?

We were dead in our trespasses and sins
All of us
We arent physically dead, but spiritually dead
We are consumed by the passions of our flesh
Doing what we want
Glorifying ourselves
Whats worse than this is this is the natural state of man
This is how we all were or are
And we are powerless to change that
10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
This is a ringing indictment of all of us
Something that should cause us despair
If I told you that you could have eternal life, all you have to do is keep this set of rules
you would say ok what must I do?
I think I can do this just give me the checklist
ok I hand you the list
The 10 commandments
Ok ready set go
No other God’s before God
Ok I worship God only as supreme in my life
How are you doing at that
Dont worship Idols
Hey this one is easy I think Idols are dumb anyway
Ok have you worshiped anything that isnt God
Dont take the name of the Lord in vain
Ok I can be reverent when I talk about God
I wont use his name wrongly
Remember the Sabbath
go to church on Sunday
Honor father and mother
Well ok I think I can do that
Ill always look to honor my parents
Dont murder
Ok I dont really want to kill people
But did you hate someone?
Dont commit adultrey
ok I’m not married
do you lust
Dont steal
Dont lie
Dont Covet
How have you done with these 10?
Can you just do these on your own will
Every day, Every minute, Every second of your life?
We cant because none of us our righteous
When Adam and Eve took from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
They opened the eyes of man kind so we can now know good and evil
and evil is oh so tempting
So tempting that we cant keep ourselves from it
We need a savior because we cant do it on our own
This is why we need salvation
Because we cant save ourselves
But this is the great thing about salvation is we dont have to do it

God being rich in his mercy saves us
Even better than that he has planned this out since before the foundations of the earth
4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
Even though our situation was dire God has this worked out for his glory he preforms the act of salvation in our lives
The free gift of salvation is so amazing because it is a story only God can write in our lives
The only thing we can do is have faith in him
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Salvation comes through faith
What a great gift is salvation
How do I know if I am saved?
