John 17:18-20
18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message.
Mark 16:15-16
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Romans 10:13-14
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
“Living Sent”
Introduction
Jonah 1:1-3
1 Now the word of the Lordcame to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.
Jonah was disobedient to God’s calling
Contrast with
Isaiah 6:1-8
6 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
· VS 5 – Isaiah realized his sin and the need of a Savior
· VS 6-7 – He received forgiveness of sin
· VS 8 – His response was to proclaim the name of God
This remains the same for us today
Prayer
2 types of churches
Attractional churches (Slide of Picture) – Focuses on bringing people to church with the building, programs, and services provided – But no where in the Bible does it say we proclaim and share the message “Come to church”
Missional churches – Equips and sends people out to evangelize making new disciples and training disciples to maturity
We are a missional church
God’s mission for the church is to “Go and make disciples”
· Great commission – Matthew 28:19-20
2 parts to great commission
· Bringing the Christian faith to the world - We plant the seed of God’s powerful work which is the Gospel in the soil which is our community – Making disciples by sharing Gospel to unbelievers
· When a person comes to faith in Jesus, we then help them mature in that faith. We water the seed to help it grow – Making disciples is also helping them mature in their faith after they have come to faith in Jesus
· God began this mission by sending Jesus to earth - Why Jesus came
Luke 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
This is our mission here at TBCC
· Missional mandate - “Sharing Jesus as we engage our community one relationship at a time”
· Become the presence and representative of Jesus so our community encounters Him
2 Corinthians 5:20
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.
Looking at today
· Evangelism – sharing Gospel to unbelievers
· Why important? – Our society was once dominated by Christianity, so not so today
· It’s important because our world is seeking God
Let’s turn to our Vision Frame
· A lens we look through to make our church and ministry decisions
Our vision frame includes:
· Missional Mandate
· Our Values
· Our Strategies
· Our Marks of Spiritual Growth
Look at these in detail with regards to evangelism
Values – Living Sent
· We are committed to share the Gospel with unbelievers
· We are also dedicated to raising up disciples who make disciples
· Sent is the verb – the action
· Living is the adverb – How are we sent
· Means this is a lifestyle, not just something we do from time to time
· Means living out our faith through actions and words
To Live sent, to be an effective evangelist
· We must make Jesus and the Gospel relevant to unbelievers
· The Gospel message never changes but our approach and methods change with an ever-changing society
o Commitment to understand the people of our community
o Know community itself inside and out
o Meet people where they are
o Must identify and address felt needs
· Pray for opportunities to share
· Be ready to share Gospel at all times when the opportunity presents itself
· Fully know the entire Gospel message
· Let go of all personal ambitions – selfishness – Make Jesus our #1 priority and obey great commission
· It means we put away all obstacles that stand in the way of proclaiming the name of Jesus
· Most of the time these obstacles are fear and being uncomfortable
· We may never get rid of fear and being uncomfortable completely – But the more we share, the less it is
· Learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable
Missional mandate
· “Sharing Jesus as we engage our community one relationship at a time”
· Reflects our value of living sent
· The driving focus of our church

Conclusion/application
God’s mission for the church is to “Go and make disciples”
Romans 10:13-14
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
So, what are some things that we can do right now
Have faith and trust that God will fulfill His promise that we are empowered by the Holy Spirit when we share Gospel
Acts 1:8
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Know God is responsible for the results, not us
· Gospel message itself holds is power, not from our own power
Romans 1:16-17 makes this clear
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes
Read the Gospel of John
· John 20:30-31 Gives us the purpose of the book
John 20:30-31
30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
· Reading John will help us learn how Jesus shared the Kingdom of God and the good news of the Gospel and model it
· It will also help us to fully understand the Gospel
The ultimate/end result for evangelism
Our mandate is for everyone to be present for what is written in Revelation 7:9-10
9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
I ask you, will you follow Isaiah’s example to obey Christ’s great commission?
8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Are you willing to Join us to be committed to “Go and make disciples of all nations?”
· As we (or to) “Share Jesus as we engage our community one relationship at a time”
