Matthew 7:24–29 KJV 1900
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
If Dr. Micheal DeBakey, the world's leading heart surgeon, examined you and said, “You need heart surgery STAT!” your inclination would be to believe him and get your affairs in order.‌
Why?
Because he has all the authority of the cardiological community.‌
When Jesus says, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” You should get your affairs in order and follow Him.
If Jesus is the Son of God, who created and sustains the universe, made Himself a man, performed miracles, taught and did what was prophesied by the prophets, died and rose again as attested to by the apostles and over five hundred people at once. When He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes unto the Father but by me.” You should understand that this comes from the highest authority possible and believe the words He teaches.

Recognize Sovereignty

Isaiah 33:22 KJV 1900
For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, The Lord is our king; he will save us.
Jesus claims that He is the LORD our judge, lawgiver, and king.
Matthew 7:24 KJV 1900
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Matthew 7:26 KJV 1900
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Jesus will declared His intentions for you and He graciously proclaims that you have a choice. Trust Him or do not, but a rejection of reality will lead to Him denying you eternal life.
When I was in elementary, my family lived on Ivy St. in Del Paso Heights. Two men who claimed to be Jesus lived on either side of the street about four houses south of my family. One of the men was living with family because he could not hold a job, and the other had trouble keeping a job due to his temper.
One day, my brothers and I were helping a neighbor dig out a stump from his front yard when one of the Jesus rode by on his bicycle and offered to help. We thought he would help with the pick axe or the shovel, but instead, he rolled up his sleeves, revealing arrows tattooed on his forearms. He raised his arms, and with all his fortitude, he pointed them at the stump, mumbling something unintelligible.
After the initial amazement wore off, the owner of the stump asked, "What are you doing?" "I am going to remove this stump with my almighty power!" Not sure what to do, the owner looked at my brothers and me and said, "Well, the almighty gave us the power to dig, so let's dig." Later that year, the other Jesus shot the tattooed Jesus in the street just to prove that he wouldn't rise from the dead.
I could never believe these could offer sound advice. But Jesus proved Himself to be reliable and I can trust His words.
John 14:11 KJV 1900
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
John 21:25 KJV 1900
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
When it comes to your relationship with God, you must recognize who the authority is. You are not the authority, He is.

Religious Shortcomings

The houses, the lives, looked exactly the same. In Elk Grove they would have both been constructed by Taylor Morrison. Both families are religious (go to church) their kids a part of a youth group and are in the same school district.
But one is acknowledged by God as wise and the other as a fool (moro, the word that we get moron from).
Sermon on the Mount—The Message of the Kingdom (Religious Lifestyle Not Enough (vv. 24–27))
The man who builds his house upon the shifting foundation is likened to the person who hears Jesus’ words but who does not put them to practice. The man who builds his house upon the rock is likened to the person who not only hears Jesus’ words but also puts them into practice. The difference between the two houses is therefore likened to the difference between obedience and disobedience. - D. A. Carson
There is the complete moron:
Psalm 53:1 KJV 1900
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: There is none that doeth good.
Then there is the religious moron:
Proverbs 14:16 KJV 1900
A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: But the fool rageth, and is confident.
James 1:26 KJV 1900
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
Sermon on the Mount—The Message of the Kingdom Religious Lifestyle Not Enough (vv. 24–27)

It is easy to fool the pastor, our friends, and even ourselves. All we have to do is learn the vocabulary and adapt some cultural conventions. But Jesus does not want any of us to fall to such delusion. It is apparent as he concludes the Sermon on the Mount that he is instilling some healthy fear into our lives. In

Matthew 7:13 KJV 1900
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
The wisdom that we need comes from God.
James 1:5 KJV 1900
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
1 Corinthians 1:24 KJV 1900
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
The foundation is the rock, the cornerstone that the builders rejected.
1 Corinthians 3:10–11 KJV 1900
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Mark 12:10 KJV 1900
And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
Ephesians 2:20 KJV 1900
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Resounding Sigh

Matthew 7:28–29 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
The authority Jesus claimed was very different from the guilt riddled teachings of the Pharisees and scribes of the day. Their right to speak was their ability to quote Scripture or subsequent Jewish teachers and tradition. Jesus cites no human authorities or tradition, often when He recites religious traditions he does so to condemn it. Jesus quotes Scripture to correct the interpretation of it.
Jesus is the true spokesman for God.
John 1:1 KJV 1900
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Matthew 3:17 KJV 1900
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Conclusion:
We should examine our hearts by the standards Jesus set down and not by tradition of man, culture, or anything else in this world. May we be amazed by the words of Jesus. Come let us marvel together the Son of God.
