The Beatitudes : the Blessededness
Not blessing like that of which we are used to, money, gifts, time.
The beatitudes are that of which comes forth in the christian life.
“these are the things that happens when one says Yes to Jesus.”
These Beatitudes center on what happens when we say yes, they are not a list of things we must begin to work towards, rather a reminder of our surrender, and how deep it goes.
Today’s message is Called “ Having a Conversation that Matters”
We left Matthew 5 3 which we saw last week shows how we must Intellectually and Spiritually be dependant on God.
Matthew 5:3 NIV
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Today we pick up where we left off.
Matthew 5:4 NIV
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
John 4 7-10 conversation starter / what they thought was the issue
John 4:7–10 NIV
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
the issue of the physical Samaritan vs Jew
John 4 13-16 : what we think the problem is
John 4:13–16 NIV
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” 16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
What is missing is the deeper thirst of life
John 4 21-26 The real conversation
John 4:21–26 NIV
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
it’s not about her having 5 husbands but rather not fulfilling a need within her life. She hasn’t been able to see the (true contradiction within her life) ( physical intimacy can’t match spiritual intimacy) god is spirit: this is where this water rest
John 4 39-41 Gods revealing brings the Spirits pulling
John 4:39–41 NIV
39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.
when she realized what was needed and how to receive it she had to tell others
Back to Matthew 5:4
Matthew 5:4 NIV
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Mourning: what I already have
Comforting: adding scripture to the covering
Mourning: is the idea to grieve over a loved one, but the beatitudes are not looking at the outward life of a christian but rather the inward inclination of the spirit of a christian.
Then biblical mourning is to grieve over oneself, which begs the question what would we mourn over?
Our first beatitude is one that gives weight to the intellectual, for the one that has come to the intellectual understand they are spiritual beggars, which produces the approval of God.
which leads us into the understanding that we are are not spiritually plentiful because of the darkness we live in.
Our second beatitude then is one of emotional understanding, for it brings us to the conclusion that we are sinners and should reflect on this state of being that we are. For if it were not so Christ wouldnt of had to come to save us.
This sounds like a paradox, to mourn over the very thing we wish to rid ourselves of. For sin not only distances us from God, but it also is what sends us to death.
To mourn over death while the christian lives and experiences the kingdom. Is quite the paradox.
Yet then we have the second sentence with this passage, that speaks of this very mourning, and its revelation.
When a person is mourning, those around you want to do one thing, comfort you.
When i see someone hurting, in emotional anguish, all i wish for them is to be rid of this pain, yet that wouldnt be healthy at all, but the proper response to mourning is that which God is teaching us in this passage, for the one mourning to experience comfort.
Which comfort isnt a removal of saddness, grieve, no, but comfort is a covering.
Psalm 91:4 NIV
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Comfort or covering is that of which protects under vulnerabliity. Going hand and hand with the surrender of poor in Spirit. Dependency upon Gods provision. Yet this is not the sinful man or womens ability, but that of which is God’s.
If you ask me thats just amazing.
For this scripture should then read under interpretation
Blessed or approved by God those who WANT to become aware of their sin, Instead of hidding from it allowing it to become a fortress. For they will be covered.
With all of this being said these 5 takeaways

1. Sin is the distance between us and God

( Isaiah 59:2
Isaiah 59:2 NIV
2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

2. Growth in righteousness is stunted by buried sin(need)

(1 Sam 16:23
1 Samuel 16:23 NIV
23 Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.

3. If you want to see growth ask God where he is digging.

( Go home and Read psalm 18 : reminds us that God is always at work for us and its always for our Good.
another good verse is this
(Romans 8:28-29
Romans 8:28–29 NIV
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

4. This enables us to work with God

Phil 2 12-13
Philippians 2:12–13 NIV
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

5. We build trust with Holy Spirit when we seek the buried things.

(1 Corinthians 2 9-10
1 Corinthians 2:9–10 NIV
9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him— 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
Closing. God just lead me. I am dependant on you.
to sum all of this up, have you every found yourself sitting in a season of what seems to be silecne from God? IF stagnation had a feeling it would be brought by the wave of silence.
And when we think God is silent, the enemy is still working.
Althought we may not hear the voice of God, the agenda of the enemy is still at hand.
Silence in our Spirit isnt God forgetting us, its opportunity to show God we remember Him.
Crying out, asking God what he may be doing.
David anointed and Called by God, inquired of The lords direction, because he had no idea what to do.
The opportunity is not in the physical desciions before you, but the Spirits direction given you upon an inquiry.
When have you inquired of the Lord last?
OR rather have we had our emotions overtake our lives, and determine our responses and paths?
Anger, Anxiety, fear, and Failure? Depression, and distress?
Chaos, and Confusion? Have we determined the happiness our day brought was God, then what that of the anger?
Psyschologist wrote this article based on the rationlizing of our emotions within our spirit.
The sharp, biting, nagging feeling of fear or anxiety; what is that emotion trying to motivate us to do? If we can contain it well enough to listen to it, what will we learn from it? Is there someone we need to communicate with or something we need to do?
