A 50-year-old British woman decided 40 years ago, when she was only ten, that she didn’t want to have wrinkles when she grew older. She had been told that smiling would cause laughter lines to develop around her mouth, eyes, and forehead as she aged. She determined to never smile to avoid developing laughter lines. She adopted a permanent poker face and now says, “My dedication has paid off, I don’t have a single line on my face.”
She has spent forty years walking about without a smile to avoid the wrinkles that come with growing older. We need to develop that discipline. Not to refrain from smiling to avoid wrinkles, but to walk about each day in a manner worthy of the God who calls us into His own Kingdom and glory. The result would be an inner beauty far surpassing a wrinkleless face. --Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell
