When Animal Control Officer Joe Dainelis responded to a call about a tiger in the drive of a vacant home, he had real concerns. When he arrived, he was convinced that he was looking at a young tiger lying in the driveway of the home and approached it with care. He grabbed a pole and a shield, and called for police backup. He asked a coworker to approach the animal from another direction to be sure it didn’t get away. As the coworker got closer, she realized they were dealing with a stuffed animal and there was no danger. When he realized he had been fooled, Dainelis said he expects to be teased for several days because of the incident.— Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell
