This parable is a glimpse into the last days church.
Let’s study the ACTIONS of the seed:

I. The Facts About The Seed. v.19a

It is the smallest seed.
It is like a grain of mustard seed,
By its own built in dictionary a mustard seed has something to do with faith (Matthew 17:20) It is to be sown.

II. The Future Of The Seed. v.19b

which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.
It becomes colossal.
The influence it has.
The institute it has.
This is a worldly church with worldly faith. (Ezekiel 31:1-6 especially v.6; 1 Timothy 4:1-3; 2 Timothy 3:1-5)
“Religious groups usually have a history in four stages: a man, a movement, a machine, a monument.” (Vance Havner)
It becomes corrupt. Psalm 53:1
The place of corruption. Ephesians 6:12.
The people of corruption. “the birds”
The birds of the air are devils according to the exact, detailed, doctrinal teaching of Jesus Himself on parables (Matt. 13:19; Mark 4:4–5, 15; Luke 8:5–12).
Revelation 2:12-17 (this church is the last before Roman Catholicism. It is no wonder that all churches are adding Catholicism's doctrines slowly right before the great catching away)

Conclusion:

What is the theme of this chapter? Repentance!
What does an end time church have the greatest need of?
