Intro- Foreigner….I wanna know what love is…

Research has found that 65 percent of the general population are visual learners, meaning they need to see information in order to retain it.

Most unbelievers have heard that they are loved but often haven’t been shown that they are loved.

ROmans
The New International Version (Chapter 5)
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
some translations say proving, others showing, and this one demonstrating..

God didn’t just talk about love He showed us love by sending Jesus.

Jesus demonstrated how we should love.

The New International Version (Chapter 13)
If I speak in the tongues n of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, u but do not have love, I gain nothing.

A lack of love will always look out of step with Jesus.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.
Patience, kindness, and humility.

We live in a culture that rewards pride, sees meanness as strength, and believes patience towards others is weakness.

Patience- being slow to anger and quick toward forgiveness and reconciliation

In Jesus we see the personification of God being slow to anger and abounding in love.

Kindness- doing and be good to others in a way that shows them extreme value and worth regardless of their actions.
Humility- Seeing and serving others by putting their needs before your own.
The New International Version (Chapter 8)
When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2 A man with leprosy l came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

Jesus showed us that showing people love is more important than maintaining a certain status.

Parable of unforgiving Servant?
Matthew
The New International Version (Chapter 18)
23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.
29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’
30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Freedom is only possible with forgiveness.

Be Patient with Others and God will be Patient with you.

God’s patience with us is dependent on our patience with others.

The level we forgive others is the level God will forgive us.
Who does God want you to demonstrate patience with?
Who does God want you to be kind to?
Is there something you could do this week that would push you in humility?
