Telos: We are the Light of the World, embracing the message of the Cross

1 When I survey the wondrous cross
on which the Prince of glory died,
my richest gain I count but loss,
and pour contempt on all my pride.
2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
save in the death of Christ, my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them through his blood.
3 See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
or thorns compose so rich a crown?
4 Were the whole realm of nature mine,
that were a present far too small.

But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ. Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and fitting into the little patterns that they dictate.

The Message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hell-bent on destruction, but for those on the way of salvation it makes perfect sense. This is the way God works, and most powerfully as it turns out.
Application
The Vertical Beam is planted in earth, and reaches to the sky.

It breaks the power of the curse for those who receive the person on the Cross.

So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
The earth we live in (including the dirt we are made from) is corrupted by mankind's rebellion against God. It will always try to default back to its corruptive nature, not towards life. This will be a lifetime battle for everyone. Some in one area, others in another. Some of it is genetics, which is tied to corruption, and some to environment which is tied to corruption, and some to our choices (diet, smoking, alcohol etc.) which is tied to corruption.
Corruption will always try to assassinate the character of God. Kill our trust in His character, and we will feel alone and without faith, and eventually without hope.

And Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
We are called by the One on the Cross to take His message, love, presence, and power to the World.
