Matthew 14:13–15 KJV 1900
13 When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. 14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. 15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
The term compassion is mention over 100 times in the Bible; the purpose of this sermon is to renew our mind led by Kingdom compassion. Here are few scripture on the kingdom compassion the help keep my mind renewed:
Lamentations 3:22-23 - It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Psalm 145:8–9 KJV 1900
8 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; Slow to anger, and of great mercy. 9 The Lord is good to all: And his tender mercies are over all his works.
Isaiah 49:15–16 KJV 1900
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee. 16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; Thy walls are continually before me.
What compassion is not
Before we describe or define the meaning and attributes Kingdom compassion mean let talk about what is not .
It is not pity, sympathy or empathy.
Pity means to feel sorrow for the misfortunes of others
Sympathy is formal expressions of sorrow - such as giving condolences, gift card, are words of kindness.
Empathy is the ability relate pain, misfortune ( we have High Priest that can relate to us).
All of these qualities of good but is not the Kingdom compassion that our text is referring to in the scriptures.
Example of pity using a person trapped in building on fire...
Pity will say I feel sorry for that family trapped in the fire
Sympathy will say let send a card to show our sorrow for the family trapped in the fire.
Empathy will say I can related to family because i had people in the family go though the same thing or i went through the same thing a few years ago.
The is nothing wrong with any of those responses but how will compassion respond?
Biblical compassion makes the difference because it implement action.
Jude 21–22 KJV 1900
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
Biiblical compassion (rayamu) - centers on the bowels, inner wound (mother carrying her child), deeply moved that lead to action. Actions that motivated by action.
In our story campassion would have ran to fire save the family.
Compassion would have call 911 to have people to help them.
Compassion would have called in the name of the intervene.
Campassion is what drove God to save His people over and again in Bible.
He save His people from Egpty, wilderness, exile,
God is motherly compassion. Isaiah 49:15-16
Tess showed compassion when performing CPR on sister trying to save her life.
We are to participate in relieving suffering in this world as in the story of the Good Samaritans.
Let review the background of our text Jesus has bowels of compassion and heal the multitude and he feed the mulitude.
Compassion focuses on helping even when the one who help is going through.
Jesus was going through a family crisis yet he took the time to have compassion in the mulitude.
Jesus want to be alone after hearing his cousin John the Baptist
The greatest act of compassion is to to share and demonstrate the Gospel of Christ to other in Word and deed.
Do be ashamed to Jesus to others- Rom1:16
Romans 1:16 KJV 1900
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
We can rescue families that are destined to burn in the fire that was not meant for them. By sharing the Gospel.
Emoni and read story yesterday about never giving up
Never give up on your love one that need to be saved and forgiven.
Jude 20–23 KJV 1900
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
I pray we all renew our mind and develop a Spirit of Compasions
