Intro and Tension

Football (Soccer fan) | New Manager Liverpool | Off Season - Player trades/strats - before first game - huddle
sermon series - Selfless love - Lot of hearing, training, in huddle - Time to step out.
In Luke - Interesting Passage - Jesus talks about coming of kingdom | Talks about deceptions etc. then says;
Luke 17:26–29 ESV
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all—
What saying? Noah = getting ready. Lot = Listened and Acted - Did something - Had prepared hearts - that led to action in obedience.
Question; How is your heart? Ready for action? Knowing Jesus could come back today - or perpesctive still of this world?
Time to exit huddle - Step out onto field.
Our anchor text for today;
Luke 17:33 ESV
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.
Title: Break me of me so I can serve you
**Pray**
Where we going? Look at | God wants to ask you;
What are you holding onto in this world, that is preventing you from serving Jesus whole heartedly.
What does it mean to be completely sefless for Jesus ? Not partially.
How can you step away from familiar, and into your calling so you can show sefless love today
Our prayer today;
Lord - Break me of me, so I can serve you.
Look at story - Lady with Ointment - Broke over Jesus feet - and then look at Jesus who broke everything for you.
Where are we?
Luke 7 | Jesus eating with pharisee in home | Let me set the scene.
Pharisees home | People come to hear teaching | At windows, on porch - Jesus inside.
Luke 7:37 ESV
And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment,
“Woman of city” = Prostitiute - Not great profession | Didnt grow up with this dream | Used and abused by Men | Society saw her as untouchable | Her indemtity - almost impossible to get out of.
Well - She heard Jesus was in Town | Maybe heard of miracle etc What did she do?
She had to get there.
Famous Concert - The things people do
Do you know what it would have taken to get there | Through Crowds snickering - Through the house - Glared upon - Shunned. Step into a space she was not welcomed.
She had to step away from what was familiar to her - and step out in Faith.
Abraham - Go to land I will show oyu.
If we want God to break us from us -
Step away from Familiar, Step out in Faith.
Walking on two planks - You gotta make a decision - Not about staying on one plank and asking God to bless it - Taking God’s way. Some Point need to choose.
Step away from familiar, step out in Faith.
So what happened.
Luke 7:38 ESV
and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.
She stood there - Sobbing | Ever come to Jesus Sobbing? | When you breaking something that use to be you - you Sob.
this ointmemnt - more than years wages | but also Calling Card | Men get whiff - and she pours it on Jesus’ feet.
What’s happening here?
Stepped into presence of Jesus - Pouring out everytihng she was - Everything she can be in the future - that world told her she can be.
If you want Jesus to Break you, you have to be willing to pour everything out.
Jesus said - can’t serve 2 Gods - tear you apart.
Jesus didn’t partially hang on corss - Fully hung - You have to fully give your life away.
Then what happens? Woman abandons her life ,gives away future | In presence of Messiah - Everyone cheers - NO.
Luke 7:39 ESV
Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”
There comes Critisim.
Netball - I support, Offer Advice -unnofficial coach - Don’t actually know - don’t play the game.
Listen - do not (repeat) expect world to understand kingdom purpose.
1 Corinthians 2:14 ESV
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
Someone of world - not going to understand kingdom calling.
Step into where God is calling, regardless of worldly critisism.
Unless it’s your spiritual authority.
Giving up everyting for Jesus - is never wrong thing to do. “You’re giving everything up for God”
“Yes, cause he gave up everything for me”.
Started Church story - had to keep going. One guy - Believed in Me - I was blessed - Had Authority to.
But for God to be able to use you for HIS Glory, He needs to break you of Yours.
This women - Poured out everything she had over Jesus and was critisised for it.
and it says
Luke 7:48 ESV
And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 7:49 ESV
Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”
Luke 7:50 ESV
And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
How faith going?
need to get to the point - Where you’re sobbing over Jesus. Broken. Jesus break me of me , so I can serve you.
Mum - Last Phone Call - Car, driveway, She wanted to catch up - I fobbed it off | Next phone call hospital - I praise God got to see her before passed - but this sat with me - Ate away at me.
Until one night | I got on knees, and I just gave it all to God - The night - I had a dream of Mum in Eternity, feasting at the table.
In your biggest brokeness, comes God’s biggest blessings.
No idea what a life of Servitude to the KING will do.
Don’t know where to start?
“Lord, break my heart, for what breaks yours” Our rebellion broke the heart of God.
Hebrews 12:2 ESV
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
His Joy - was our reconciliation.
Jesus - Went to cross - CRUSHED by Grace.
to the point - felt Seperated from God | Took God’s wrath so you wouldn’t have to | Didn’t partially hang there | Didn’t half die | All of Jesus was broken - Asking same of you.
Why? Cause not where story ends | Your brokeness is not where story ends | on 3rd day | After Jesus broken - Put into Grave
Women went to annoint body - Saw Angel.
Matthew 28:5–7 ESV
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”
At other side of Jesus Brokenss and Crushing - was a resurrection.
At other side of your bokenss - there will be a resurrection.
We don’t serve a God of Death - We serve a God of LIFE > That’s what He wants for you.
For that to Happen;
You have to step away from familiar, step out in faith. Selfless love not tagline | Transformation - It’s new.
You have to be willing to let it go - Pour it out - Be Willing to give it up for Jesus |
Step into where God is calling, regardless of worldly critisism. Doesn’t have ot make sense to world
Listen
At end of first passage we read;
Luke 17:31–32 ESV
On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. Remember Lot’s wife.
Tht day = day of Lord | Lot’s wife - looked back, at destruction - at mess - and died. Don’t look back!
Luke 17:33 ESV
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.
Calling Jesus has for you mch more fulfilling then world can ever give you.
What account are you going to give Jesus?
Gospel required Jesus’ life for it to be good News | Requires your life if you’re going to seflessly serve Jesus and experience resurrection.
Break me of me, so I can serve you.
As we move to prayer | Some may be in spot to pray - Break me, all of me - Some not there - start with one sin | Let’s give God a heart abandoned, of everthing but him.
