What have we leaned as we have spent time together this weekend? What has bee the high light for you? Are you convinced that you are to be a Titus 2 Older Women for the younger women in your life? Who is your Barnabus? Who is your Paul? Who is your Titus?
Let’s read Titus 2: 3-5 one more time:
Titus 2:3–5 NASB95
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
Let’s use the word MENTORING to summarize what we have learned and where we are going....
M MENTORING MENTORING....BEING A TITUS 2 WOMAN....IS A MANDATE. IT REQUIRES THAT I HAVE AN OPEN HEART TOWARD THE LORD AND AN OPEN HEART TOWARD THOSE HE LEADS ME TO MINISTER TO.
Matthew 22:37–40 NASB95
And He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ “This is the great and foremost commandment. “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
Our prayer should be that we would be sensitive and discerning about the needs of those around us and what our role might be in meeting those needs. That we might see the Lord and in turn see the needs of His saints and of those who are not yet His.
Open the eyes of my heart Lord Open the eyes of my heart I want to see you I want to see you
Open the eyes of my heart Lord Open the eyes of my heart I want to see you I want to see you
To see you high and lifted up Shinin' in the light of Your glory Pour out your power and love As we sing holy, holy, holy
E EVANGELISM MENTORING MAY INCLUDE SHARING OR CLARIFYING THE GOSPEL, BUT IS NOT ALWAYS THE STARTING POINT. ALWAYS BE READY TO SHARE THE HOPE THAT IS WITHIN YOU.
1 Peter 3:15 NASB95
but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
N NEEDS MENTORING INVOLVES MEETING FELT AND UNFELT NEEDS. NEEDS ARE EVERYWHERE! YOU CANNOT MEET THEM ALL NOR ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO. JESUS HAD THE THREE, THE 12, THE FOLLOWERS, AND THE MULTITUDE. WHO ARE YOUR THREE? START THERE.
Philippians 2:4 NASB95
do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Make me a servant Humble and meek Lord let me lift up those who are weak And may the prayers of my heart always be Make me a servant Make me a servant Make me a servant today
T TIME MENTORING/ DISCIPLESHIP, REQUIRES A SACRIFICE OF TIME AND ENERGY ON YOUR PART. WE MUST RELY ON THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR OUT STRENGTH AND ENABLING POWER TO DO ALL THAT HE ASKS US TO DO.
Ephesians 5:16 NASB95
making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
In his time, in his time He makes all things beautiful In his time
Lord please show me everyday As you're teaching me your way That you do just what you say In your time
In your time, in your time You make all things beautiful In your time
Lord my life to you I bring May each song I have to sing Be to you a lovely thing In your time
O OTHERS MENTORING, THOUGH MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL, IS ESSENTIALLY OTHERS FOCUSED. IT IS NOT BASED ON WHAT I NEED, BUT ON THE NEEDS OF THE OTHER WOMAN. IT MAY INVOLVE MOMENTS, SHORT TERM RELATIONSHIPS, OR LONG TERM COMMITMENTS. BRUCE WILKINSON, FOUNDER OF TEACH EVERY NATIONS, STATES, “DISCIPLESHIP OCCURS WHENEVER YOU MOVE SOMEONE ELSE CLOSER TO JESUS.” WE CAN MENTOR/DISCIPLE SOMEONE DURING A ONE TIME ENCOUNTER IN A GROCERY STORE.
John 21:17 NASB95
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Tend My sheep.
R REDEMPTION MENTORING IS RELATIONAL AND ALWAYS POINTS OTHERS TO THE TRUTH OF SCRIPTURE AND IS THUS A WORK OF REDEMPTION.
Titus 2:11–14 NASB95
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it! Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; Redeemed through His infinite mercy, His child and forever I am.
Refrain: Redeemed, redeemed, Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; Redeemed, redeemed, His child and forever I am.Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus, No language my rapture can tell; I know that the light of His presence With me doth continually dwell.I think of my blessed Redeemer, I think of Him all the day long: I sing, for I cannot be silent; His love is the theme of my song.I know I shall see in His beauty The King in whose law I delight; Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps, And giveth me songs in the night.I know there’s a crown that is waiting In yonder bright mansion for me, And soon, with the spirits made perfect, At home with the Lord I shall be.
INTENTIONAL MENTORING INVOLVES BEING INTENTIONAL AND IT INTENDED FOR MUTUAL ENCOURAGEMENT AND GROWTH.
We need to be intentional about relationships in the body of Christ. We need to see them as essential and not throw away. We need to invest in a local body through small groups, Bible studies, retreat, and 1;1 mentoring relationships. We can do this by being willing to share our stories and by being willing to be vulnerable. Take a risk...... seek out an older woman to speak truth into your life....... begin investing in the younger women around you.
Romans 1:11–12 NASB95
For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established; that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine.
N NECESSARY MENTORING IS A NECESSARY RELATIONSHIP. AS HAS BEEN SAID BEFORE THIS WEEKEND, WE ALL NEED OLD LADIES IN OUR LIVES AND WE ALL NEED YOUNGER LADIES IN OUR LIVES. LIFE IS JUST BETTER WHEN LIVED INTERGENERATIONALLY. IN THE BOOK GEN Z WE READ THAT GEN Z ERS TRUST THE OLD PEOPLE THAT THEY PERSONALLY KNOW WHEN THEY DON'T TRUST THE GOVERNMENT OR HEALTHCARE OR SOCIETY IN GENERAL. ALSO, STUDIES SHOW THAT CHILDREN WHO HAVE GRANDPARENTS INVOLVED IN THEIR LIVES HAVE MORE EMOTIONALLY STABLE LIVES. WE NEED TO POINT ONE ANOTHER AND THE YOUNGERS IN OUR LIVES TO TRUTH.
John 17 “Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. “Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. “Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me. “I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world,…”
John 17:17 NASB95
“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
G GO AND FINALLY, MENTORING IS PART OF OUR RESPONSE TO THE GREAT COMMISSION TO GO.....
Matthew 28:18–20 NASB95
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
