We need reminders.

We do not always get things right the first time. We must continue to be reminded of what we should know and do know in order to live out our faith well.

Life can be exhausting.

As a church we know this to be true right now. We have had a long 5 weeks hosting 4 funerals. Church we have done well. Thank you for walking/running, and being on this marathon.

Familiarity does not always produce faith.

We must be reminded of this. Jesus in his hometown. The disciples. Even to some extent Herod.

Disciples of Jesus are sent ones.

This the true meaning of the word “apostle”. Mark uses this word only here in the Gospel.

The foreshadow of things to come.

I think Mark is intentionally letting the early church know that suffering, pain, and trouble is not unexpected.

We need rest.

Don’t miss what Jesus is saying here. He is advocating for a time of rest for the disciples. We need good rest.

In our rest we cannot neglect.

Even though the intention was to get rest we cannot neglect people or fail to trust God and His strength. The miracles to come is a remidner we need to trust the Good Shepherd to provide all we need.

Jesus is our shepherd.

We need a good shepherd. Mark 6.30-44 is showing us in vivid details the heart of David in Psalm 23. Also as people are wondering who Jesus is we see that he is better than Moses, Numbers 11, and greater than Elijah or Elish. (1 Kings 17; 2 Kings 4)

Jesus reveals himself.

As Jesus is walking on the water it is so that the disciples will truly see who He is. The question of the Gospel is, “Who is Jesus?” The disciples like us do not always get it.

Jesus is above all.

We must remember this.
