Gentleness and Meekness describe the same trait when used of people.

Not a key term in ancient secular Greek or the common Greek of the NT era.

Definition

the quality of not being overly impressed by a sense of one’s self-importance, gentleness, humility, courtesy, considerateness, meekness

Direction of Derivation

Jesus is the source of taking what was a useful adjective and transforming it into a characteristic of His people.

In terms of chronology James, then Peter would have used the term and then Paul
