resurrected to life

luke 20 verses 27-38
Q. Have you ever wondered what it will be like after you die.
or what is heaven going to be like.
some of you may even be wondering if your going to go to heaven
Q. Have you ever wondered why am I here. what is the point of life?
the bible has these answers.
you were made by God, with the sole purpouse of knowing Him and glorifying Him.
Q. What do you think is the greatest emotion that God has made?
Love , adoration
He made everything to show His power and His love..to His creation
the high point of His plan in creation
is the resurection of His people
to an everlasting life with Him...
Jesus has just taught about paying taxes
the religious leaders have been trying to catch him saying something
that will get him in trouble.
He is in Jerusalem
and It is the last week of His life
many people are cheering Him on as the son of God
and many are looking to persecute and have him arrested
we pick up in verse
luke 20 :27
Luke 20:27–28 NKJV
Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, saying: “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife, and he dies without children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.
Saducees- they were a group of people
who held a theological position
that was very strict to moral character and observance to the mosaic law
similar to the pharisees
it would be similar to how we have baptist and penecostal
but they were of the jewish religion
some of the things that made them different than the pharisees
was their belief on spiritual matters
they did not believe in spirits, angels, or the ressurection of the dead.
This is important because our faith is built on Jesus and the ressurection of the dead.
the resurrection- means to rise again after death.
everyone will rise again from the dead
some to heaven with Jesus
and some to hell without him
now sin, and evil, and wrong doing, is not abel to be in the presance of God.
this is why we need to have our sin forgiven by trusting in the payment Jesus made for us at the cross.
He died in our place to pay for our sin.
so now we can everlasting life
this everlasting life will happen in new ressurected bodies that have no sin
Because of thier denial of the resurrection, the saducces wanted to press Jesus on this issue.
They asked him a question that refrenced Gods law
in Deuteronomy 25:5
Deuteronomy 25:5 NKJV
“If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the widow of the dead man shall not be married to a stranger outside the family; her husband’s brother shall go in to her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her.
yes you heard that right..
If I died without having a son
and my brother was not married, he would have to marry my wife and continue the family for me.
whos grossed out right now…
you have to understand
God gave these laws to Israel to bless and protect them.
In this day and age, if a woman lost her husband she was
very bad off.
women were not abel to make it on their own in the same way they could in our culture.
there is a level of protection to this command.
it was also very shameful to not have a son to carry on the name of the family.
therefore it was very important to keep the family heritage going.
this is common in many cultures
but it is not so common in ours.
so the saducees use this command from the law to disprove the ressurection of the dead.
Luke 20:29–33 NKJV
Now there were seven brothers. And the first took a wife, and died without children. And the second took her as wife, and he died childless. Then the third took her, and in like manner the seven also; and they left no children, and died. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife does she become? For all seven had her as wife.”
So after the 3rd husband died
I would be looking for some poison in the cupboards.
it sounds like the misses is up to no good to go through 7 husbands...
but
the saducees give a hypothetical question for the ages
hypothetical question is imagine if this happened....
like imagine if chik fila served burgers ,,, would they be more popular?
like
A. No thats not happening and
B. no they cant get any more popular than they are now…
they ask a stupid question with the motive of stumping Jesus
If she ends up marrying 7 men
whos wife is she in the ressurection.
remember the saducees dont believe in the ressurection
Luke 20:34–36 NKJV
Jesus answered and said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
Jesus responds to them by stating the facts
in this world in these bodies and at this time
we get married.
we get married for many reasons.
one is so that we have a helper as instituted in Genesis with adam and eve
another is to help keep us from sexual immorality as detailed in 1 corinthians
but most of all marriage is meant to foreshado the relationship between us and God
Ephesians 5:25 NKJV
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
husbands are to reflect the Lord and wives are to reflect the church.
we are joined together as one spirit with our spouse , just like we are with Christ
the church- believers- are called the bride of Christ
because we will be joined with him forever at the ressurection
there is nothing sexual about this
but it all points to the fact that Jesus has prepared a place for us in heaven where we will be joined with Him forever.

Jesus is our greatest desire in heaven

the people who are worthy to attain the ressurection are those whos sin is washed away
those who have trusted in Jesus will be raised to life again in a glorious new body
and they will not have the need or desire to be married.
we will have bodies but they will be so different.
we will not need a marriage helper.
we will not have sexual needs.
and we will not need to foreshadow the relationship with God
because it will be taking place in its fullest effect.
we will be walking with God in the perfect eternal state.
and in our perfect eternal state we will
be fully satisfied in Christ.
let me ask you,
Q. would you be content if you died and went to paradise, but Jesus was not there.
What is the goal that your after?
are you trying to be a better person? are you trying to get girls? are you just trying to make your parents happy?
the point of our relationship with God is the person of Jesus Christ
to know Him and enjoy Him forever.
1 Corinthians 13:9–12 NKJV
For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
we only have a dim understanding of God
but at the resurrection we will know Him fully
when we get to that point
Jesus will be all that you want
He will be enough and in His presance you will be full
there will be no pain, no depression, no anxiety, no sickness, no disease.
at the resurection all things will be made perfect.
this is the reality that we have entered into as believers
it has already happened spiritually but not yet physically.
We will be equal to the angels in the way of spiritual beings
and we will be the sons and daughters of God
His prized possession in heaven
picking up in verse 37
Luke 20:37–38 NKJV
But even Moses showed in the burning bush passage that the dead are raised, when he called the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him.”
Jesus continues His defense of the ressurection
brings up moses
when God spoke to Him from the burning bush
God spoke to moses through fire that was engulfing a large bush
yet the bush did not burn up..
God called moses to go back into egypt to set the Israelites free from slavery
When He did that God called Himself the God Abraham, Isaac, And Jacob.
He said this in the tense that they are still alive
He did not say I was the God of abraham, issac, and Jacob.
He said I am…
He has noted I am the God of the living

Live with eternity in mind

We have a hope
that There is more to this life than ,
live, have fun, and die
If we didnt believe that God was real, and that He is holy
and if we didnt believe that we needed to be saved from our sin
than we would live as if we were God.
we would make our own rules
and inevitably become depressed that our lives have no significant meaning
other than have fun, try to survive, and die.
yet the truth is you were made for a purpouse
by a loving God who knows you by name
your purpouse is to know your creator
and be with Him for eternity
1 Corinthians 15:19–20 NKJV
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Paul is saying if our hope is in Christ for this life only,,,, we are the biggest losers in the world
but we do know that God is real
we know that we are sinful and need forgivness
and we do know that God will raise us from the dead Just like Christ
so
I need you guys to get your eyes on eternity
your life is a vapor here
but your life after this will be far more important.
we get concerned with all of the things of this world
but we do not belong to this world
we belong to the one to come
so first,
make sure that you are saved
(the gospel)
once you have given your life to the Lord
make sure that you are living for Him with the eternal resurrection in mind.
Lets pray
