Review & Overview

1. Previous Study’s Review

If you remember in Ex.35-40 we’ll be looking at the construction of the Tabernacle as well as the various articles for the Tabernacle.…
And the Priestly Garments for those who minister in the Tabernacle…
So this section of the book involves & revolves around the Work that will be done for the Lord - It’s all about Israel’s obedience to the Lord.
So far we’ve looked at several things pertaining to Israel’s Obedience:
In Chapter 35, Israel’s Obedience Involved: Their Priority, Giving, the Holy Spirit, and Sufficiency.
Last Friday, we saw the building of the tabernacle…

2. Current Study’s Overview

That brings us to Chapter 37 and our study for today as we continue to look at Israel’s Obedience and it involves all the Furnishings that will be inside the Tabernacle. Read…
The Title of today’s message is: Between the Cherubim: The Ark of the Covenant.

1. The Ark of the Covenant Vs. 1-9

1.1 Bezaleel Vs. 1

Bezaleel was a gifted artisan, chp.36:1... Acacia is a hard wood called Shittim or Umbrella tree.
1 cubit is about 18”… Ark: 3’-9” long x 2’-3” wide x 2’-3” tall… inside the Holy of Holies.
In Heb.9:4, there were 3 things in the Ark: 10 commandments, Golden pot of Manna, Aaron’s budding rod.
Hebrews 9:4 NKJV
4 which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;
The design for the ark is initially communicated in 25:10–22. In this passage, Bezalel makes the ark exactly as instructed in ch. 25.
The ark of the covenant, as described in this passage and elsewhere, is comparable in design to the thrones associated with deities and, sometimes, royalty throughout the ancient Near East (e.g., 1 Kgs 10:18–20).
The purpose of the design being similar is to show that Yahweh is truly and ultimately king of Israel and over all creation—not any person or god.
The seat itself also contains no idol, which signals that Yahweh is not worshiped like other gods.
John 4:23–24 NKJV
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Talk about the balance with spirit and truth.

1.2 Gold Vs. 2

Consider the juxtaposition of the ordinary (acacia wood) with the divine (gold).z
The gold, precious and pure, symbolizes divine grace and sanctification.
As believers, we are like the acacia wood, ordinary and imperfect, but through God's grace, we are overlaid with the purity and righteousness of Christ.

1.3 Transportation Vs. 3-5

The gold rings and poles on the Ark allowed it to be carried on the shoulders of the Levites, signifying that the presence of God is not stationary but moves with His people.
It is a powerful reminder that God is always with us, guiding and supporting us in our journey through life.

1.4 Mercy Seat Vs. 6

The mercy seat was the lid of the ark. But it was not just the Lid over the Ark… but its where the Lord would Appear…
In Lev.16:1-22 on Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement…
When once a year the High Priest would go into the Holy of Holies and sprinkle blood on the Mercy Seat atoning for the sins of the people…
TALK ABOUT WHAT MERCY IS…
Therefore, the mercy seat, points to the ultimate expression of God's love and mercy in Jesus Christ.
Just as the mercy seat was the place of atonement for the Israelites, Christ became our mercy seat—our propitiation—through His sacrifice on the cross.
In Him, we find forgiveness for our sins and the promise of eternal communion with God.
let the image of the mercy seat inspire you to approach God with confidence and gratitude.
Let it remind you that no matter what challenges you face or mistakes you've made, you are always welcome in the presence of God.
His mercy is ready to cover you, to renew you, and to guide you into a deeper, more loving relationship with Him.

1.5 Cherubim Vs. 7-9

Cherubim: is plural for a classification of angel… in Ezek.28:12-18 Lucifer or Satan is a cherub.
The mercy seat was God’s throne, the place of His dwelling on earth.
As the golden cherubim looked down upon it, they did not see the Law (which Israel had broken) or the jar of manna and Aaron’s rod, both of which were associated with rebellions by Israel.
Rather, they saw the sprinkled blood, which enabled God to be merciful to rebellious sinners.
The mercy seat typifies Christ as the One “whom God set forth as a mercy seat” (Rom. 3:25, lit.).32 …
Romans 3:25 NKJV
25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,
The Ark was used to Cover their sins for one year… it looks forward to Jesus Christ who doesn’t cover our sins…
But takes away our sins by His shed blood once for all Heb.10:10
Hebrews 10:10 NKJV
10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
