Introduction
We have come to the last message on our March theme of Growing in Grace
For today’s message titled “Grace for Every Season”

Thesis Statement: As followers of Christ, we are called to be faithful and share the message of God's saving grace at all times, whether it is convenient or not.

1 Peter 3:15 ESV
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
Objectives
Call to Preach the Word
The Challenges of Sharing Grace Out of Season
The Importance of Being Prepared

1. CALL TO PREACH

Background and context of our lesson
Paul is twilight or last days of his ministry
He is imprisoned and anticipates his pending death
2 Timothy 4:6 ESV
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.
Paul approaches his impending death with confidence and trust in the Lord
2 Timothy 4:7–8 ESV
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
Paul’s departing instruction to Timothy
2 Timothy 4:2 ESV
preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
The word translated “ready” comes from the Greek word for “stand.” The idea is to always be “standing by,” always “on-duty,” “ready to go.”
The word also carried a connotation of urgency in the original language.
“in season” literally means “good time,” and “out of season” comes from the same word but with a different prefix, giving it the opposite meaning.

2. The Challenges of Sharing Grace Out of Season

Examples of unseasonable preaching
Acts 5:40 ESV
and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
Acts 7:55–58 ESV
But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.
Acts 12:1–2 ESV
About that time Herod the king laid violent hands on some who belonged to the church. He killed James the brother of John with the sword,
Acts 16:23–24 ESV
And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
Why did they continue to preach
Acts 5:29 ESV
But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
Acts 4:19–20 ESV
But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.”
Seasonal preaching is not preaching what people want to hear. It’s preaching the truth to receptive ears
It’s “unloving” to point out people’s sins
We must be “inclusive” or people with leave or not come
What is the goal of preaching
Luke 9:23 ESV
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Galatians 1:9–10 ESV
As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Conclusion
Romans 10:14–15 ESV
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Many in the church want to replace “uncomfortable” Bible truths with cultural popular ideas.
As followers of Christ, we are called to be faithful and share the message of God's saving grace at all times, whether it is convenient or not.
