The Triumphal entry
The Gospel was a promise of God-
sin entered the world in Genesis 3 with Adam and Eve turning from God, listening to a lie, and then becoming slaves to sin and to the Tyranny of the Devil.
God’s response to sin was to provide a substitute-
In the Old Testament it was the sacrificial system
in Egypt it was the Passover Lamb
BUT THE BLOOD OF LAMBS AND BULSS, COULDN’T TAKE AWAY THE SINS OF THE PEOPLE
For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
God promised a seed from the woman who would crush the head of the serpent
1 John 3:8 (CSB)
The one who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s works.
There would be a perfect sacrifice that would come to break the curse of sin
he then says, See, I have come to do your will. He takes away the first to establish the second. By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time.
God will was that Jesus would come and as the Prophet Isaiah says
Yet he himself bore our sicknesses,
and he carried our pains;
but we in turn regarded him stricken,
struck down by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced because of our rebellion,
crushed because of our iniquities;
punishment for our peace was on him,
and we are healed by his wounds.
With this in mind we need to understand that the Cross wasn’t a surprise to Jesus- but it was the destination that he had come for.

the Disciples ask in Matthew 19:25

When the disciples heard this, they were utterly astonished and asked, “Then who can be saved?”
This is the question that Jesus came to solve-
if sin is to great for one to overcome then who can be saved?
if everyone is slaves to sin then who can be saved?
if the wages of sin is death and everyone falls short then who can be saved?
Jesus is the answer
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Jesus is the provision of God for the sins of the World
Jesus is the provision of God for the sins of the World
For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Here is the provision of God entering into the place of Sacrifice- Provision for sin
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
GOD IS ALWAYS A GOD OF PROVISION- THE CROSS TESTIFIES TO THIS
Here Jesus is heading into Jerusalem for the most curial moment of His coming- THE CROSS
Jesus knew the cross was His destination-
Jesus knew the cross was His destination-
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.”
the Feast of Passover was a time of Rejoicing for God’s provision
They were to rejoice for deliverance
provision from heaven
God’s promise and redemption
All of these thing Jesus would provide for them!

The stage is set for the Passover
the only thing left at this moment is the fulfillment of the promise.
When they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives, Jesus then sent two disciples, telling them, “Go into the village ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied there with her colt. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them at once.”
This took place so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled:
Tell Daughter Zion,
“See, your King is coming to you,
gentle, and mounted on a donkey,
and on a colt,
the foal of a donkey.”
Notice that Jesus is still fulfilling the word of God up to this point
God wanted everyone to know Jesus is the promise fulfilled
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout in triumph, Daughter Jerusalem!
Look, your King is coming to you;
he is righteous and victorious,
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
The King is unlike any other king- He is Humble - He comes riding on the back of donkey
Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.
Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man,
he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.
But this King is victorious! “Rejoice for our King has defeated sin and the devil!”
This is where we are set free, because our king humbles Himself to fulfill the will of God

The disciples went and did just as Jesus directed them. They brought the donkey and the colt; then they laid their clothes on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their clothes on the road; others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road. Then the crowds who went ahead of him and those who followed shouted:
Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is he who comes in the name
of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!
When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in an uproar, saying, “Who is this?”
Notice that the ministry Jesus had wasn’t a small ministry- He is riding on a Donkey and the people are laying their cloaks down for Him to walk on-
SHOWING HONOR AND SINGING PRAISE-
“HOSANNA” THEY ARE SHOUTING SAVES US PLEASE- WHICH IS NOT A PLEA BUT A SONG OF WORSHIP
THEY ARE YOU SAYING “YOU RULE OVER ALL THINGS- AND YOU ARE OUR SALVATION”
YOU HAVE THE AUTHORITY AND THE POWER
CAUSE YOU ARE THE PROMISE OF GOD- “SON OF DAVID!”
“HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD”- YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS SENT BY GOD
THE SPIRITUAL PROVISION FROM ABOVE
JESUS IS THAT ! and He is a humble King- Matthew 20:28
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
This is the purpose- why our humble King came and we cry “Hosanna”
PRAISE HIM FOR HIS DELIVERANCE!
PRAISE HIM FOR HIS DELIVERANCE!
As they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take and eat it; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. But I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus tells them the price to be paid for the New Covenant-
My Body
My Blood
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
The Sacrifice of the Good Shepherd is what was need for the redemption of man
The Hymn of Praise:
The Hymn of Praise:
Traditionally the Israelites would sing a hymn of praise.
How could not praise the God who delivered us
From addiction
from property
from depression
from sickness
from demons
from the tyranny of the devil himself
All through the blood of the lamb
Yet he himself bore our sicknesses,
and he carried our pains;
but we in turn regarded him stricken,

But he was pierced because of our rebellion,
crushed because of our iniquities;
punishment for our peace was on him,
and we are healed by his wounds.
He is a wonderful Savior, and they praise for it
They would sing Psalms 113-118, And praise Him, the Titles of the Psalms of Praise that they would sing:
Psalm 113- Praise to the merciful God
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the trash heap
Psalm 104- God’s Deliverance of Israel- God’s presence with His people!
Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
Psalm 115- Glory belongs to God alone
Not to us, Lord, not to us,
but to your name give glory
because of your faithful love, because of your truth.
Why should the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
Our God is in heaven
and does whatever he pleases.
Psalm 116- Thanks to God for Deliverance
The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is compassionate.
The Lord guards the inexperienced;
I was helpless, and he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.
For you, Lord, rescued me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.
I will walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
I believed, even when I said,
“I am severely oppressed.”
In my alarm I said,
“Everyone is a liar.”
Psalm 117- a Call to everyone to Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord, all nations!
Glorify him, all peoples!
For his faithful love to us is great;
the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever.
Hallelujah!
Psalm 118- Thanksgiving for Victory
Lord, save us!
Lord, please grant us success!
He who comes in the name
of the Lord is blessed.
From the house of the Lord we bless you.
The Lord is God and has given us light.
Bind the festival sacrifice with cords
to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will give you thanks.
You are my God; I will exalt you.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his faithful love endures forever.
