The Prophetic Witnesses of Salvation

Every year during “March Madness” people fill out brackets for the NCAA Tournament with predictions of winners. This year over 50 million brackets were filled out on ESPN and NCAA websites. After just the first round (32 games) no “perfect brackets” were left.
In contrast, the prophecies concerning Christ’s birth, life, service, death, and resurrection occured hundreds of years before and came true precisely as the Lord specified.

The Men of His Trial

Jesus foretold that the Gentiles (the Roman soldiers) would be involved in his trial and death. This had been prophesied beforehand.
Psalm 2:1–2 NKJV
Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
(Even though a prophesy of his second coming, it still occured at his first).
Daniel’s 70 week prophesy. 483 years after the decree to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, Jesus entered Jerusalem and was “cut off”.
Daniel 9:24–26 NKJV
“Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy. “Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. “And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

The Means of His Death

Mocking, insulted, and spit on. Isaiah 50:6
Isaiah 50:6 NKJV
I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.
Scourged and crucified (Matt. 20:19).
Isaiah 53:3–6 NKJV
He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Psalm 22 is a foreshadow of everything that took place on the cross.

The Miracle of His Resurrection

Jesus spoke of His resurrection in 3 days! Luke 9:22 “saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”” Psalm 16:10
Psalm 16:10 NKJV
For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

The Plea for Mercy for Salvation

Salvation cannot just be head knowledge of facts about the Lord Jesus. There must be an encounter with the Savior. A moment when you receive the mercy that He has to offer.
Blind Bartimaeus heard Jesus passing by. What a tragedy if Jesus is passing by and no one takes note! The disciples in the boat on the sea of Galilee. Mark 6:48 “And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them,” They cried out!
Bartimaeus was persistent. He called out even when told to be quiet. He called upon Jesus by His Messianic Title! He cried out for God’s mercy!
You cannot receive from the Lord unless you recognize your need for the Lord!

The Path of Faith to Salvation

Jesus said that his faith had healed him. (Sozo). Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
He had faith that Jesus is the Messiah.
Pass me not O Gentle Savior, Hear my humble cry! While on others thou art calling, Do not pass me by.
Let me at thy throne of mercy, find a sweet relief. Kneeling there in deep contrition. Help my unbelief.
Trusting only in thy merit would I seek thy face. Heal my wounded broken spirit. Save me by thy grace.
