October 25, 2015 - Exalting the Suffering Servant (Is. 53:10-12)

Okay. Isaiah chapter 53 verse number 10 the Bible says yet.

When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed he shall prolong his day. And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied by his knowledge. Shall my righteous servant justify many for he shall bear their iniquities.

And he shall divide the spoil with the strong because he had poured out his soul unto death and he was numbered with the transgressors any bear the sins of many and made intercession for the transgressors for I pray that you would open our eyes to behold wondrous things out of your word. I pray the Lord that you would help us to be moved this morning and all of what Jesus has done for us. I understand this is such a familiar passage of scripture in many ways that there's probably not much that I can bring that would be new to our mind this morning, but Lord, maybe I can challenge us to think in a way that perhaps we have not looked at before maybe we can look at it in a different light, but Lord, I pray that you would help us to not leave here. Okay with how we have how we have treated your son Jesus Christ in in all that he's made available for us and how we have so fallen short of of claiming what he's done for us on Calvary, Florida Power and moving now. I pray that you would remove all distractions from us that we would come before your word that Lord you hide me behind the cross that Jesus would be lifted up and magnify. Help me Lord. Help me. I pray in Jesus name. Amen. Amen a story that will talk to you today back in the in the depression. This story came came to the service afterwards in and it's really is based off of chapter one. We're going to go. Look at that later on. I will take you to Ephesians later in the message Lord willing, but this is this is a story that's about insurance the most people the Great Depression followed and out of those Hard Times. However came a story which has a strange ending desk. She sought an insurance office in Minneapolis. She was asked what she wanted. With trembling hands she took from her well-worn person old policy and explain regretfully that she was unable to meet the current premium what little she did it was hardly enough to close feed her and keep a roof over her head after quick investigation. The clerk recognized that the policy was very valuable. He warned she was making an unwise move to stop payment. Did not her husband have anything to say his policy. made out to her at her benefit explained My husband oh, he's been dead for 3 years. She remarks sadly. Immediately the company officials went into action. They soon discovered that she was indeed telling the truth what she didn't understand was that the policy was her husband's in that. She was the beneficiary of his dad. They were overpaid premium plus the full amount for which the husband had ensured his life in her favorite. The money was sufficient to keep her in Comfort the rest of her life. Hey, listen, no the greatest of all time. And when Jesus Christ died on the cross, I mean the benefits that we get from from what he did for us or unspeakable unimaginable and I just wonder how many thousands of people continue just trying to make payments on their own salvation or even their own sanctification in except take this gift just claimed that are there waiting for you through Jesus Christ. Through his death burial Resurrection in every sense of the word Our Savior and he has done something that only only he could do for it to become the beneficiary of God's life insurance policy for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son John 3:16 and Jesus came he died on the cross so that you and I might have forgiveness. I don't know where that story came from. The source is unknown, but it does present a valuable Truth for us today. Does it not Now I trust that, you know, the Lord is your savior that you know, I'm not going to assume that anyone is saved. I hope that there's a time in your life where you can remember when you pray and Trust in Christ the Savior, but I also know that I'm talking to some folks today that's already taken that step. Let me challenge you just the same. You know, we go through life everyday and the grind and we can get so weary in the toil and then the effort of just trying to trying to make it through the day or whatever your day may look like have you claimed the benefits the grace of God has given for you? Oh, yeah. I did not say for sure. But if you done it today. Council for the grace of God and I wonder how many times I would walk up to the counter and say well I just can't I just can't keep making these payments and counter would say you're crazy. Don't don't you understand. You're the beneficiary of this you don't need to do that because Can we claim the vent the benefits as we look at this wonderful passage of scripture? We see the Victorious Ministry of the servant King now, we're continuing our study and Isaiah and maybe want to go back in and look at some of my previous notes and things before remember the services that we had together for those who are new and you haven't been using the word Messiah. You won't find the word Messiah In this passage, but he describes what the servant will look like what he's going to do when he comes in his ministry that he has and in this ministry that the servant is prophesied by God all these thousands of years before Jesus Christ even came in and from where we are looking back.

victory and we are on our side as the song says we sing that hymn what Jesus did on the cross there's an aspect of it which still continues to every single one of us today the spoils and we we don't really use that word a lot today because we're not in a climate in a culture. Where are readily, you know, something of our everyday life but you know David knew about spoils he knew what happened in found a ziklag destroyed and in all the family gone and every everyone's family gone and everything they had taken will they went after you know, he asked the Lord the Lord said yes going and then David went in the Bible says he recovered all see. Those are spoils see Jesus Christ.

On our own and because he won that battle there are spoils. Can you imagine what can you do?

You know me just imagine the last Super Bowl party for the team that one I don't know that's bad because you know that's worldly stuff. We don't want to think about worldly stuff, but they were celebrating. I remember the spirit when the Braves won the World Series, you know if year after year after you but anyway the picture and the benefits you see we're not talking about. We're not talking about even even a Super Bowl trophy. We're not talking about a Stanley Cup or not talking about these temporal things that pass away when I'm talking about Incorruptible. We're talking about the Bible.

The people today have a hard time swallowing some of these things and I understand the rational mind, you know has to think through all these things that friend if you just take What God Says at face value, he means what he says when he says that there's a heaven to gain and a hell to shun. He means that when he says it Jesus's is his only begotten son. He made you means that These are the truth of the scriptures. So as we think about The Spoils of Christ's Victory notice, it's not our Victory. We're just on the winning team, but we're not the winning player of Jesus Christ based on what he did this Victory. The spoils can be yours friend. They can be mine. We can we can glean these things and today feeling a little bit uncomfortable. A little bit uneasy not because of how I am. I mean if I make you uncomfortable, I'm sorry. I never intend to do that. But if the scriptures make you uncomfortable and you come to the cross and you say Lord never really thought about it like that. I'm so sorry. I have not been I have not heard of so much. I should I should live in your grace more instead of just letting it sit by the wayside everyday of my life Lord. Help me to open it help me to enjoy even now the eternal life that Jesus Christ went through so much to make available. I hope you feel a little bit uneasy about how you how you done with the grace of God because all of us all of us can grow in this area neglecting to claim your benefits me like this dear elderly lady. I mean, she's working her fingers to the Bone just trying to make ends meet and she she has a policy that would leave her. Well that would carry her through. I mean, you know, that's what that's what her husband had provided for her and and he's probably turning over in his grave, but she doesn't because she doesn't know she doesn't understand and so even if you feel a little uneasy because your understanding something you didn't understand before you think that lady little bit embarrassed. I don't know. I think the embarrassment really disappears very fast moments first check comes in hands like over my head. And so she was able to live comfortably because she claimed she claimed what have been provided for that. She was trying to work for I want you to understand the benefits of Jesus Christ Ministry and I want you to claim them by faith because that's how we get them. We believe this is I mean, this is the Turning Point either you believe it or you don't and if you believe it you get to benefits living testimony right here in my heart is full from what Jesus has done for me. I know I don't deserve it. But that came by face time. I like where I had a hard time swallowing some of these things and I had to work through it in my heart and mind but I castles reservations aside. My said there's nobody else that I'd rather trust God who created me and who I can take all my cares to an infant in so many ways. I see you. I see you. I see your hand you're working in my life. And I know I know you love me God and so let me share with you what Christ Alone offers. He offers a satisfying offering I don't mean to be redundant there. But this isn't this is an offering of himself that completely satisfies your sin that he offers a justifying delivery. That is a Salvation that is through justification by faith. And then thirdly he he gives us and interceding victory. I mean, he's our high priest and there's an aspect of his ministry that he continues today. We see this any free versus here first consider with me how the servant made up of his soul 3 verse number 10. The Bible says yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him. He has put him to Greece and offering percentage.

And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand it pleased the Lord to bruise him. This I got to I got to be frank with you. This is a hard thing to chew on. How could something like this be pleasing? It pleased the Lord the bruising and it's not the same word prove that used in Genesis 315 where it says he shall bruise his head. Shall bruise his heel the first promise of Messiah is not the same Hebrew word bruise. It's different world altogether from what I understand, but this word bruise mean such a Crush. How do you take pleasure in crushing something some illustrations like Murr and in the a Lowe's in in herbs and things that you have to crush, you know, Smyrna second Church in in the Book of Revelation that had a letter written to them. Smyrna means crushed Maran when you when you crush Mariah damn, it's this fragrance. That's Pleasant. And I think that's a good biblical picture to think about when it pleased the Lord to bruise him because there's something there's a saber that's coming out of that that you can't get it unless it's crushed. And so Jesus Christ he came and he was crushed. He made a pleasing offering of a soul notices pleasing bruises the sickness that he bore in the wording is is very very informative it pleased the Lord. So who's getting the pleasure out of it? The Lord in what you getting pleasure out of losing him who is the serving gets bruised in that? He has put him to grieve. What worse what we're saying is that Christ sacrificed himself and it's satisfied it pleased the Lord.

in John chapter 10 verse number 18 Jesus himself said I lay down my life. No, man. John 10:18 when he's talking about being a good shepherd Good Shepherd giving his life for the Sheep. He said if I lay it down. Can you finish it? I have power to take it again.

Who in the history of mankind has a

Nobody, I mean if if I were to die, there's no way I can call my life back. I know that. There's been no one but she Jesus Christ has that kind of power that he laid down his life and he had the power to take you read through the New Testament you learned that Jesus Christ was resurrected by the power of the father. Jesus Christ was resurrected not just by the power of the father, but he was resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit and that's a different person of the Triune godhead that hadn't had an influence in his resurrection. But also and this one is is the one that so hard for us to the Tractor mind around perhaps that's because he's already dead is resurrected by his own power the Father the Son the holy spirit in different passages. They each have have a part in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He's done that he willingly lay down his life. Now we can take something that doesn't belong to us when we take line. But you're saying we're taking something that doesn't belong to us. We don't have power to really take it. No God, it's the life-giver. You see what Jesus is saying when he says I have the power to do this that this belongs to me to see this through. He lays down his life for us. And then he takes it again through his sacrifice me the numerous cells throughout the ages of Believers have been redeemed by his blood and delivered by his blood. They're still going to be the hope that Jesus Christ can save the soul. And all these all these Souls Through the Ages. I've been redeemed and brought to an everlasting relationship with the father with son of the holy spirit is Christ because it pleased the Lord to bruise him. He goes on to say that he put him to greet read inverse number 10 says it pleased the Lord to bruise him. He has put him to grief lot of pronouns coming on there. And I don't know if I've quite figured out who the who all the heaters are in whose eyes are but that's an interesting if you just want an easy read go through this passage and just look at all the pronouns and try to figure out who is this he died. I can help you understand a little bit here, but the word grief literally means to be made l Look at it. He has made him sick. Okay, it says he has to put him to illness. He had put him to grieve he have put him to sickness.

Let me give you a second to think about it. Put on the sickness. We made me sick to be made Hill. It's not what's in. I need the workforce in there be no sickness, right? Ways of sin is death, but you know what happens when people die they get sick and then you die and whether you're busy or not friend are spiritually sick unto death. We all have this sickness of sin Upon Us weave Jesus Christ the righteous he came and became sick for you. Sick even to the point that he would die.

That's how part of the sickness took him. He has put him to greet. You see what we're looking at here the father puts the sickness of sin. In the disease of sin on his son. No, I just left you a whole world to think about the illogical. There's no other way. There there is no other way that this thing can happen. Somebody's got to go through it.

And you can go through it yourself and you can pay $0.04 for all eternity and a place called hell. Are you can trust that Jesus Christ? The Son of God the omnipotent God has power and he has the keys to death and hell now because he came he got sick he died for us and some sickness he put up the grease. They didn't say that.

She's not over. It's not we're talking about some sad sob story where somebody got sick and died know somebody got sick on purpose. So that they could they could I mean this is not a foreign concept to to humanitarian thoughts. Right? I mean how many how many positions are scientists might put themselves In Harm's Way to stop a virus. Dino's going to wipe out an entire, you know country or something. I mean, these are noble standing you see these are heroic things, but we have so much more than a hero knows we heard about Friday night and a great meeting. We have a savior and he did this for us this Jesus you cease and makes one sick on the Hebrews tells to see it tasted death death for every man. That means experience death for every man. See the pleasing bruise this sickness that he bore this this grief that he carried. So not only his Bible and and look with me in Leviticus chapter 5 verses hear from you show you the world that you're looking at its used in this passage and I'll show you what it talks about when Isaiah says you're fighting Leviticus. He was a lamb without blemish, but he took that on a he took that on himself for us so that we can be made righteousness. Look back in her text and Isaiah 53 in verse number 10 and noticed. Is pleasing bruised and illness not only his stolz sin offering for you but notices last fruit or his remaining fruit back in Isaiah 53:10. No, there is something in Hebrews chapter 12 verse that he went to the cross despising the shame for the joy that was set before him. What's this joints that sweet-smelling Savor of that crushed Murr when he would give his life. He knew there was something to gain the game to you.

This is behind all this is truth. And God can't lie. I mean if we do the math on the short end of the stick believing something that I find out as well. What did I believe that for? What language is in that nothing? I mean, I'm living a life full of joy and happiness and a blessed to be scheduled skeptical about this.

No, maybe I mean what if I am wrong? I don't believe I am but what if I am, I didn't really lose anything. What if I'm wrong on the other side? What do I stand to lose their?

I'm talking about the blessings that Jesus gives us a friend. If you walk by faith, you know, Jesus told his disciples. He said they have Moses and the prophets.

Let them believe them first day will not hear Moses and the prophets friend. If you're not going to listen to the Bible, if you're going to listen to all this other mess and trash out there modernism never talk about a little bit later on today if you want to listen all this stuff. And put the Bible inside. The best thing that you can do is go somewhere and lock yourself in for a while with nothing. You see the fruit of what Jesus did remains today? It's a biting fruit. Now, that's an oxymoron yourself. How how many windowsill too long? What happens to it? It doesn't remain. Either somebody else in the house comes by and says, who's that's yummy. I think I'll leave that it's gone or it just stinks up your whole kitchen and you got to get rid of it somehow.

Fruit doesn't stick around like that. Jesus said this group does. This proved us the Crystal River in heaven. Oh here I go on that. You know kick again. Is there go read it it's true. There's going to be a crystal river flowing. There's going to be the trees along that River Tree of Life that are going to bear fruit. Wait a whole year before I get more apples off my tree or peaches or whatever. I'm growing pears, whatever you whatever you like every month every month. These trees are going to be full-time when they're not when you can't walk up like Jesus did you know and then the Fig Tree they were like what you do what you do when it wasn't supposed to be growing tree. Why because he wanted some refreshment from it, and there was nothing So I can be like that in heaven. You're going to come and you're going to find refreshment anytime you're there. It's just beautiful c benefits the lasting fruit. The pleasure of the Lord he go I say goes on to say the Pledge of the Lord shall prosper, you know, surely the pleasure of the Lord prospered because of the life-giving sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus Christ who prayed a little later on a past John 15 and John 17 and is high Priestly prayer. He played he prayed father glorify down me with the glory that I had with me before the world. Seek the pleasure of the Lord Prosper when Jesus can you explain Isaiah 53? You can't find anybody else in here, but Jesus. You just can't.

So these folks that are out there that are still looking for someone to fit this bill. I think they're like that. Why don't they? I don't know if I can answer that question. Why don't why don't why don't we why don't we Avail ourselves to what Jesus did for his John 17 is a beautiful past shows us our our our high priest in a way that gives us a glimpse into his intercessory Ministry. That wouldn't talk about here in a moment. But secondly, not only this offering that was pleasing this satisfactory offering but notice secondly the servants birth pains that brings blessings according to Isaiah chapter 53. He says he shall see the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. It is just brings all kinds of objects illustrations to mine. Now. I'm a parent and I've been present for the birth of our children each time and I'll tell you it is travail not on me, but it is hard. It is one of the most difficult things I can ever do to watch my wife go through what she goes through in order to to Bear children into this world in the Bible is clear meme Bittman beget children women bear them and there's a distinction in the words for reason his men have no idea what it's like to Bear children and frankly. I don't need to I don't I don't want to but there's there's an aspect clear that this is a travail that that I mean, we've got to wrap your mind around by Jesus talk about the travail of the world that's going to bring forth paint. You know what he's time I used to These are not the wrath of God in judgment that this world is going to bring forth the new Heaven and the new Earth. I mean literally it's going to be hell on Earth before we get heaven. And we're not going to be here cuz I believe will be raptured out but I'm pre-trip guy and that's why I believe that I believe the scripture say that we're going to be delivered from the Wrath to come and then we're not going to be on the world when it's judged. We can't be here otherwise would be judged with the world. So what Revelation Revelation says it's so, you know, this word brings all kinds of images to her mind about the travail. No notice what the travail is. Its he shall see the travail of his soul not just his crucifixion a mockery of a trial know Jesus. I mean, he was beaten beyond recognition short, but you understand the grief that he carried in his soul every part of him where to place where you and I could never go and come back. and he did and he went captivity captive by the way, and I don't know what all happened between him and the devil down there and and then I don't have no idea but he came out Victorious and he bore our sins and he was in full control every moment of his giving of himself satisfied without the father and the father is going to be satisfied because his death for the sins of God's people to trespass offering remember how we tried that together a man's arm and relationships. But in inverse number 11, it says and Isaiah 53, he shall see that you're satisfied by his knowledge by many for he shall do as a result of Jesus Christ propitiation in his death. See, we're not being let off you'll slap on the hand and forgiving and you can go Jesus Christ went to death for us there. We put our faith in Jesus sacrifice for us.
