Intro
Today we celebrate the Passover. Not literally, but today we celebrate the true Passover, what the Passover pointed toward.
What do you know about Passover? Let me take you back to the first Passover.
The First Passover
The First Passover
Israel was in captivity - a Nation within a nation.
God demanded that Pharaoh “Let my people go”
God sent many messages to both Egypt And Israel
Pharaoh said no, and he hardened his heart against God’s word.
God sent Moses His messenger with plagues to demonstrate his power, to undermine Pharaoh, to show the world that He is the God of Gods
Eventually after many reprieves and much patience on God’s part, he prepared to poured out his wrath.
The final of the 10 plagues would be the most devastating yet, although they had been terrible each in their own right, most people had escaped with their lives.
But Now, God was going to reveal his terrible judgement by demanding the lives of the people who stood against Him.
Yet even here, in the midst of this judgment God was kind, instead of taking everyone’s life, he would take the firstborn son of every household. In this reserved judgement, only one person would die on behalf of each household.
But he made a way of escape. For anyone who listened to God, and looked to Him in Faith, they would escape God’s wrath, by the blood of a lamb. A Passover Lamb.
The way of escape was to have another die on their behalf - a lamb would be shed, and the blood of that lamb would be taken:
“Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
The Blood on the door, the blood of the lamb, the blood of the Passover was the sign. The shed blood on behalf of the household occupants was what saved the people within.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
All were under the wrath of God, yet not by any merit of their own, rather by the sacrifice of another, they were saved.
The Perpetual Remembrance
The Perpetual Remembrance
God established the Passover for the perpetual remembrance of this salvation from slavery, and the passing over of God’s wrath.
They were to celebrate it each year with a lamb and unleavened bread.
It was the Passover that Jesus and his 12 disciples were remembering when Jesus instituted the last Supper.
But the Passover that weekend was fulfilled in a final sacrifice.

We are in captivity to death - a Nation within a nation.
God demanded that Satan & Death “Let my people go”
God sent many messages to both the world And the Church
And many have hardened their heart against God’s word.
God sent Jesus his messenger with miracles to demonstrate his power, to undermine Satan & Sin, to show the world that He is the God of Gods
Eventually after many reprieves and much patience on God’s part, God will one day pour out his wrath.
God will reveal his terrible judgement by demanding the lives of the people who stand against Him.
But he made a way of escape. For anyone who listened to God, and looked to Him in Faith, they would escape God’s wrath, by the blood of a lamb. A Once for all Passover Lamb.
Yet even here, in the midst of this judgment God was kind, instead of taking everyone’s life, he would offer His his firstborn son as a substitute for all those who would receive Him. In this reserved judgement, only one person would die on behalf of all of God’s people.
One passover lamb would die, and God’s wrath would passover all God’s people.
The way of escape was to have another die on their behalf - a lamb would be shed, and the blood of that lamb would be taken.
Jesus is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
God’s wrath will be revealed. The wine-press of the wrath of God will be tread.
You may look the fool, but you need to take the lamb, and put the blood on the door posts. It is the only thing that stands between you and the wrath of God.
Take hold of Him by Faith, rest in him. It is not anything you can do!
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
