Marcos 16:1-8 (NVI)
1 Cuando pasó el sábado, María Magdalena, María la madre de Jacobo, y Salomé compraron especias aromáticas para ir a ungir el cuerpo de Jesús. 2 Muy de mañana el primer día de la semana, apenas salido el sol, se dirigieron al sepulcro. 3 Iban diciéndose unas a otras: «¿Quién nos quitará la piedra de la entrada del sepulcro?» 4 Pues la piedra era muy grande. Pero, al fijarse bien, se dieron cuenta de que estaba corrida. 5 Al entrar en el sepulcro vieron a un joven vestido con un manto blanco, sentado a la derecha, y se asustaron. 6 —No se asusten —les dijo—. Ustedes buscan a Jesús el nazareno, el que fue crucificado. ¡Ha resucitado! No está aquí. Miren el lugar donde lo pusieron. 7 Pero vayan a decirles a los discípulos y a Pedro: “Él va delante de ustedes a Galilea. Allí lo verán, tal como les dijo”. 8 Temblorosas y desconcertadas, las mujeres salieron huyendo del sepulcro. No dijeron nada a nadie, porque tenían miedo.

1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body.
2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb
3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.
5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”
8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
Para entender bien lo que estaba sucediendo esa mañana del primer día de la semana, debemos recordar que Jesús fue crucificado el viernes anterior alrededor de las 9:00 de la mañana de nuestros horarios actuales y estuvo en la cruz unas 6 horas antes de morir. Así que Jesús murió alrededor de las 3 de la tarde y antes de las 6 de la tarde Jesús fue sepultado.
To understand well what was happening that morning on the first day of the week, we must remember that Jesus was crucified the previous Friday around 9:00 am and was on the cross about 6 hours before He died. So Jesus died around 3 pm, and before 6 pm Jesus was buried.
Era necesario que Jesús fuera sepultado antes de las 6 de la tarde porque, para los judíos, el viernes antes de la puesta del sol es “el día de la preparación”, es decir, el día en que se preparaban para guardar el sabbato día de reposo en el que la Ley de Moisés prohibía trabajar. A partir de la puesta del sol del viernes, ya nadie debía realizar ninguna actividad.
It was necessary for Jesus to be buried before 6 p.m. because, for the Jews, the Friday before sunset was “the day of Preparation,” that is, the day on which they were preparing to keep the Sabbath on which the Law of Moses prohibited working. From sunset on Friday, no one should do any more activities.
Sin embargo, un hombre, José de Arimatea, arriesgándose a faltar a la Ley de Moisés, fue apresuradamente a pedir el cuerpo muerto de Jesús para colocarlo en un sepulcro de su propiedad.
However, one man, Joseph of Arimathea, even risking breaking the Law of Moses, hurriedly went to ask for the dead body of Jesus to place it in a tomb of his property.
Por su parte, las mujeres seguidoras de Jesús que estuvieron presentes en el momento de la crucifixión, no pudieron preparar el cuerpo de Jesús para su sepultura porque el sabbat estaba ya muy cerca y eso las obligó a esperar a que pasara el día de reposo para poder hacerlo.
For their part, the women followers of Jesus who were present at the time of the crucifixion could not prepare Jesus' body for burial because the Sabbath was already very close and that forced them to wait for the Sabbath to pass before be able to do so.
Por eso, al concluir el día de reposo, es decir, a la puesta del sol del sábado, las mujeres se apresuraron para ir y comprar especias aromáticas pues irían a la tumba donde habían puesto a Jesús muy temprano en la mañana del día siguiente, el primer día de la semana, con el propósito de ungir el cuerpo de Jesús, de manera que su cuerpo muerto permaneciera sin descomponerse un poco más de tiempo.
Therefore, at the end of the Sabbath day, that is, at the sunset on Saturday, the women hurried to go and buy aromatic spices because they would go to the tomb where they had placed Jesus very early in the morning of the next day, the first day of the week, with the purpose of anointing the body of Jesus, so that His dead body remained without decomposing a little longer.
Al menos ese era su plan. Para ellas, este gesto representaba su última oportunidad para servir a su Señor y Maestro, a quien habían conocido, amado con todo su corazón y servido durante su ministerio terrenal.
At least that was their plan. For them, this gesture represented their last opportunity to serve their Lord and Master, whom they had known, loved with all their hearts, and served during His earthly ministry.
Por supuesto, estas mujeres no esperaban que Jesús hubiera resucitado, ellas fueron a la tumba a ungir un cadáver. Cuando iban en el camino hacia la tumba, se dieron cuenta de que tenían una situación difícil por delante.
Of course, these women did not expect Jesus to have risen, they went to the grave to anoint a corpse. When they were on the way to the grave, they realized that they had a difficult situation ahead of them.
Ellas sabían que se había puesto una enorme piedra a la entrada de la tumba y que, si querían entrar, alguien debía ayudarles a remover la piedra. Sin embargo, eso no las detuvo y siguieron su camino pensando que harían lo que fuera necesario para poder servir “por última vez” a su amado Señor.
They knew that a huge stone had been placed at the entrance to the tomb and that, if they wanted to enter, someone had to help them remove the stone. However, that did not stop them and they continued on their way thinking that they would do whatever was necessary to be able to serve their beloved Lord “for the last time.”
Ellas mostraron siempre su amor por Jesús y quisieron servirle A PESAR de que estuviera muerto, quisieron servirle a pesar de que no fue fácil para ellas hacerlo, quisieron servir a Jesús a pesar de que tuvieran que gastar su propio dinero para comprar las especies aromáticas.
They always showed their love for Jesus and wanted to serve him EVEN THOUGH He was dead, they wanted to serve Him even though it was not easy for them to do so, they wanted to serve Jesus even though they had to spend their own money to buy the aromatic spices.
Las mujeres seguidoras de Jesús quisieron servirle a pesar de que tuvieron que dar de su tiempo para prepararse, a pesar de que tuvieron que levantarse muy temprano en la mañana.
The women followers of Jesus wanted to serve Him even though they had to give their time to be prepared, and even though they had to get up very early in the morning.
Quisieron servirle a pesar de que sentían un profundo dolor por la muerte de su amado Maestro, a pesar de que era peligroso hacerlo y a pesar de que ni siquiera estaban seguras de que podrían vencer todos los obstáculos y dificultades que se les presentaran para hacerlo.
They wanted to serve Him even though they felt deep pain over the death of their beloved Master, even though it was dangerous to do so, and even though they were not even sure that they could overcome all the obstacles and difficulties that were ahead to do so.
¿Qué les movió a servir a su Señor a pesar de todas estas circunstancias? Lo que las movió a servir a su Señor de esa manera fue el amor que tenían por Él. Pero, ¿de dónde surgió el amor de esas mujeres para con el Señor? Ellas solo eran mujeres comunes y corrientes.
What moved them to serve their Lord despite all these circumstances? What moved them to serve their Lord in that way was the love they had for Him. But, where did these women's love for the Lord came from? They were just ordinary women.
No podemos pensar que ellas eran seres humanos especiales y que por eso amaban al Señor de manera especial. De hecho, los evangelios describen a algunas de ellas como personas con un pasado sucio e inmoral. De María Magdalena por ejemplo, el evangelista Marcos nos dice que Jesús expulsó de ella siete demonios.
We can’t think they were special human beings and that for that reason they loved the Lord in a special way. In fact, the gospels describe some of them as people with a dirty and immoral past. Mary Magdalene for example, the evangelist Mark tells us that Jesus expelled seven demons from her.
La Biblia nos muestra que esas mujeres no eran un ejemplo de vida perfecta ni nos hace pensar que por esa razón estuvieron dispuestas a servir al Señor de la manera en que lo hicieron. No, esas mujeres eran personas comunes y corrientes, como usted o como yo.
The Bible shows us that these women were not an example of a perfect life nor does it make us think that for that reason they were willing to serve the Lord in the way they did. No, those women were ordinary people, like you or me.
Sin embargo, lo que las hizo diferentes y lo que hizo que estuvieran dispuestas a servir sacrificialmente al Señor fue su amor por Él. Y, ese amor nació y se desarrolló en sus corazones, en primer lugar, porque tuvieron un encuentro real con el Señor Jesucristo. Pero también, ese amor se desarrolló y creció cuando caminaron con Jesús.
However, what made them different and what made them willing to sacrificially serve the Lord was their love for Him. And, that love was born and developed in their hearts, first of all, because they had a real encounter with the Lord, Jesus Christ. But also, that love developed and grew as they walked with Jesus.
Estas mujeres pasaron tiempo con Él, fueron enseñadas por Él, fueron testigos presenciales de su poder y, conforme pasaron ese tiempo con Él, sus corazones fueron transformados hasta llegar a amarle y confiar en Él. El amor que ellas sentían por el Señor Jesús fue la clase de amor de la que el apóstol Pablo nos habla en 2 Corintios 5:14-15.
These women spent time with Him, were taught by Him, they were eyewitnesses of His power, and as they spent that time with Him, their hearts were transformed until they came to love and trust Him. The love they felt for the Lord Jesus was the kind of love that the apostle Paul tells us about in 2 Corinthians 5:14-15.

14 El amor de Cristo nos obliga, porque estamos convencidos de que uno murió por todos, y por consiguiente todos murieron. 15 Y él murió por todos, para que los que viven ya no vivan para sí, sino para el que murió por ellos y fue resucitado.

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
En la Nueva Traducción Viviente leemos en el versículo 14 que “el amor de Cristo nos controla”. La versión Dios Habla Hoy nos dice que “el amor de Cristo se ha apoderado de nosotros”.
In the English Standard Version we read in verse 14, “For the love of Christ controls us”. The New Life Version says “For the love of Christ puts us into action.”
Ese amor de Cristo, que nos controla y se ha apoderado de nosotros, nos obliga a que ya no vivamos para nosotros mismos sino para Aquel que murió y resucitó por nosotros. Las mujeres seguidoras de Jesús quisieron servirle a pesar de que creían que Jesús estaba muerto. Nosotros amamos y servimos al Cristo que fue crucificado y murió. Pero amamos y servimos al Cristo que resucitó y hoy reina con toda autoridad.
That love of Christ, which controls us and has put us into action, forces us to no longer live for ourselves but for the One who died and rose again for us. The women followers of Jesus wanted to serve Him even though they believed Jesus was dead. We love and serve the Christ who was crucified and died. But we love and serve the Christ who rose again and today reigns with all authority.
Ver este hermoso ejemplo de amor y servicio al Señor nos desafía y nos da la oportunidad de reflexionar acerca de nuestro amor por el Señor y nuestro servicio a Él. La primera pregunta de reflexión es ¿estás sirviendo al Señor Jesucristo? Estas mujeres le sirvieron porque amaban al Señor.
Seeing this beautiful example of love and service to the Lord challenges us and gives us the opportunity to reflect on our love for the Lord and our service to Him. The first question for reflection is, are you serving the Lord Jesus Christ? These women served Him because they loved the Lord.
Entonces pregúntate, ¿realmente amo a Jesús? Y si le amas, ¿ese amor te mueve a servirle? Y si ya le sirves, ¿qué es lo que te mueve a servirle? ¿Qué te motiva a adorarle? ¿Qué te impulsa a servirle a Él al servir a otros? ¿Lo haces realmente por amor a Él? ¿Es Su amor lo que te motiva?
So ask yourself, do I really love Jesus? And, if you love Him, does that love move you to serve Him? And, if you already serving Him, what moves you to serve Him? What motivates you to worship Him? What drives you to serve Him by serving others? Do you really do it for the love of Him? Is it His love that motivates you?
En nuestros días realmente es muy fácil ir a la iglesia. Podemos cerrar los ojos y levantar las manos mientras cantamos en medio de un lugar cómodo como éste con aire acondicionado, con sillas cómodas, con un estacionamiento, lo cual quiere decir que no llegamos caminando. La verdad es que somos privilegiados al estar rodeados de tantas bendiciones.
Nowadays it is really easy to go to church. We can close our eyes and raise our hands while we sing in the middle of a comfortable place like this with air conditioning, with comfortable chairs, and with a parking lot, which means we didn't get here walking. The truth is that we are privileged to be surrounded by so many blessings.
Pero, este pasaje nos muestra que la evidencia de que tenemos un verdadero o genuino amor por Cristo es si estamos dispuestos a salir de nuestra zona de seguridad y de comodidad o si estamos dispuestos a morir a nosotros mismos para servirle o si estamos dispuestos a dar de nuestro tiempo y nuestros recursos de manera sacrificial (hasta que duela) para servir al Señor así como hicieron estas mujeres.
But, this passage shows us that the evidence that we have a true or genuine love for Christ is if we are willing to leave our security or comfort zone or if we are willing to die to ourselves to serve Him or if we are willing to give of our time and resources in a sacrificial way (until it hurts) to serve the Lord just as these women did.
Debemos recordar que el amor al Señor, como en cualquier otra relación, se desarrolla y crece a medida que pasas tiempo con Él. Solo estando en Su presencia y exponiéndote a Su Palabra podrás conocerle más profundamente, podrás amarle cada vez más y podrás confiar en que Su voluntad para ti es lo mejor, aun cuando eso signifique sacrificio o sufrimiento.
We must remember that the love for the Lord, as in any other relationship, develops and grows as you spend time with Him. Only by being in His presence and exposing yourself to His Word will you be able to know Him more deeply, you will be able to love Him more and more and you will be able to trust that His will for you is the best, even if that signifies sacrifice or suffering.
