A single event can change everything.

We know this to be true from our lives. Weddings, births, moves to a new location all change everything. In those moments we may find ourselves no longer “belonging” into the crowd we used to.
Now this is even more true when tragedy strikes. The unexpected death of a loved one. The cancer diagnosis. Natural disasters which leave nothing but devastation and destruction. In all these events everything before and after may be “colored” by the reality of the event.

Life can feel meaningless.

We can feel like nothing really matters. To some extent this is the way our culture and world is going; if you ask me.

But God!

Two of the greatest words we need to hear. The words that ring out this Resurrection Sunday morning. When all was meaningless and lost, but God… When all seemed hopeless and worthless but God.

The Resurrection of Jesus changes everything!

In our text in Mark we read the what of the matter.

Jesus’ teachings & miracles would mean nothing without the Resurrection.

If Jesus does not rise from the dead my guess, and this is just me, His teachings would not have been recorded nor would they have mattered much.

Jesus’ words and His promises are true.

We have confidence of this. Paul writing in 1 Corinthians 15 makes this point for us. He promised he would die and rise again; the disciples didn’t believe but we can trust his promises.

Jesus’ death would mean nothing without the Resurrection.

We cannot have a resurrection without a death but the death of Jesus would have been just what the disciples, the women, thought: a sad tragedy.

Jesus’ death & resurrection provide forgiveness, salvation & life.

You can know for certain of salvation this day.

Jesus’ resurrection means how we live is important.

If we are going to be followers of Jesus than how we live matters because Jesus is alive. Paul in 1 Corinthians 15.58 reminds of this truth. We can go forward obediently serving the Lord. We can truly live because the Lord is alive.

The Resurrection of Jesus gives hope for today and all of eternity.

My hope is not in some man who did great things, unjustly and innocently killed by the world powers and religious leaders who is still dead.

Let the Resurrection change you.

The difference between the leaders of the day in Jesus’ time and the disciples (including the women) was a decision of faith. Both had the same “what” evidence before them.
