OUTLINE:

WHY JESUS CAME :
SO WE COULD BE IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD
HOW
HE TAKE OUR PLACE
HE TOOK OUR SIN
HE TOOK OUR DEATH
HE DISARM THE SATAN AND DEATH

The Substitute and the Ransom

Hosea 6:2 CSB
He will revive us after two days, and on the third day he will raise us up so we can live in his presence.
This is the Reason for the Cross- TO LIVE IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD!
Isaiah 53:4–6 CSB
Yet he himself bore our sicknesses, and he carried our pains; but we in turn regarded him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds. We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished him for the iniquity of us all.

THE CROSS IS WHERE JESUS DIED FOR OUR SINS

This is the work of the Cross that Hosea is speaking about-
Romans 6:4–5 CSB
Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be in the likeness of his resurrection.
The Cross is first necessary because God is a God of Justice
Sin must be dealt with- and Here at the cross God punishes sin.
But no just any sin , our sin
Romans 5:8 CSB
But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Christ came to take away our sin- by dying as our sins
2 Corinthians 5:21 CSB
He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
GOD REMOVES THE SIN BY DESTROYING IT- ON THAT CROSS JESUS DID JUST DI FOR MY DINS HE DIED AS MY SIN,
AND I RECEIVED HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

THE ONE WHOM THEY HAVE PIERCED:

Zechariah 12:10 CSB
“Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the house of David and the residents of Jerusalem, and they will look at me whom they pierced. They will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child and weep bitterly for him as one weeps for a firstborn.
The Spirit of Grace, instead the wrath agaisnt sin.
At the cross God pour out Grace!
Zechariah 13:1 CSB
“On that day a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the residents of Jerusalem, to wash away sin and impurity.
The Cross became the Fountain that washes us as white as snow-
God removes the sin that plague our lives, by washing
There is a fountain filled with blood   Drawn from Immanuel’s veins; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,   Lose all their guilty stains:
The dying thief rejoiced to see   That fountain in his day; And there may I, though vile as he,   Wash all my sins away:
E’er since by faith I saw the stream   Thy flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme,   And shall be till I die
This fountain Does run dry- God is still pouring out His Spirit of Grace- THAT IS THE POWER OF THE CROSS
Revelation 1:5–6 CSB
and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has set us free from our sins by his blood, and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father—to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
It removes our sins-
The guilt is gone
The wages is gone
the side effects of sin
The condemnation is gone
The curse is gone
Because at the Cross God pours of the Spirit of Grace!
A foundation is a source - like a spring
a source of life
a source of cleansing
Isaiah 1:18 CSB
“Come, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are crimson red, they will be like wool.
The Cross i the fountain that washes my sins away- As God has promised!

Jesus Took our Sin by taking our Place-

Jesus and Barabbas
This si the story of the Gospel -
BARABBAS DESERVED TO BE ON THAT CROSS
He was a murderer
He was thief
He earned the right to have a cross

The Cry Expecting Deliverance

Jesus removes all separation from God
Matthew 27:45–49 CSB
From noon until three in the afternoon, darkness came over the whole land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, Elí, Elí, lemá sabachtháni?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling for Elijah.” Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and offered him a drink. But the rest said, “Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”
Jesus on the Cross Cries out to God who is His Deliverer, while completing the Act of Deliverance

The Veil torn- no more Seperation:

Matthew 27:50 CSB
But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit.
THE EVIDENCE OF THE COMPLETED WORK:
Separation is gone
Hebrews 4:16 CSB
Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.
Ephesians 2:14–18 CSB
For he is our peace, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility. In his flesh, he made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations, so that he might create in himself one new man from the two, resulting in peace. He did this so that he might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross by which he put the hostility to death. He came and proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
Sinful people are now forgiven and have access to God
This is the blood and the veil
the blood washes- What can wash away my sins, Nothing but the blood!
The veil kept man at a safe distance from God, but Jesus made peace, because HE IS OUR PEACE!
The power of death is now broken-
The Dead Rise to new resurrection life- they were bound but because Jesus died, He set them free
They are on their way to Heaven because Jesus sets the captive free!
Luke 4:18 CSB
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,
Isaiah 49:9 CSB
saying to the prisoners, “Come out,” and to those who are in darkness, “Show yourselves.” They will feed along the pathways, and their pastures will be on all the barren heights.
New Resurrection life
they were asleep in their grave
1 Corinthians 15:55–57 CSB
Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

The Resurrection: Bring the Victory

Colossians 2:14–15 CSB
He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it away by nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; he triumphed over them in him.
the cross was supposed to be the moment when satan would give his deadly blow- BUT IT BECAME THE MOMENT OF THE GREATEST VICTORY!
ALL THEY HAD WAS THE FEAR OF DEATH BUT JESUS TOOK THAT AWAY FROM THEM TOO
HIS PROMISE IS TRUE LIFE!

THE GREATEST FORCE IS DEATH-

THERE IS NOTHING IN YOUR LIFE THAT IS AS GREAT AS DEATH
JESUS CONQUERED DEATH, TO SHOW THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT HE CANNOT CONQUER-
THERE IS HOPE BE JESUS CONQUERED OUR GREATEST FOE AND THERE IS NOTHING ELSE HE CANNOT CONQUER
IF YOU ARE DEALING WITH:
FEAR
ANXITEY
SUICIDAL THOUGHTS
DEPRESSION
YOU ARE JUST ONE PRAYER AWAY FROM HEALING
1 Corinthians 15:56–57 CSB
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
THE STING OF DEATH WAS REMOVED AND I AWAIT TO ENTER INTO TRUE GLORY WHEN I DIE
Matthew 28:1–9 CSB
After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they became like dead men. The angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you.” So, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell his disciples the news. Just then Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came up, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.
RISING AGAIN HE HAS BECOME OUR RESURRECTION!
John 11:20–27 CSB
As soon as Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him, but Mary remained seated in the house. Then Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died. Yet even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” “Your brother will rise again,” Jesus told her. Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she told him, “I believe you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who comes into the world.”
JESUS IS THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE!
NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE AT THIS MOMENT YOU ARE ONE CRY FRO HELP AWAY FROM SEEING!
John 11:38–44 CSB
Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. “Remove the stone,” Jesus said. Martha, the dead man’s sister, told him, “Lord, there is already a stench because he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you heard me. I know that you always hear me, but because of the crowd standing here I said this, so that they may believe you sent me.” After he said this, he shouted with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out bound hand and foot with linen strips and with his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unwrap him and let him go.”

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

IT MATTERS BECAUSE THIS WAS ALL DONE FOR YOU!
JESUS CAME FOR YOU AND FOR ALL WHO WERE STUCK IN SIN, BOUND IN SIN
AND THAT IS EVERYONE!
THE STORY OF BARABBAS-
HE DESERVED THAT CROSS, BUT JESUS TOOK HIS PLACE
John 3:14–15 CSB
“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
AND THAT LIFE IS AN ABUNDANT LIFE
HE RESTORES TO US THE LIFE THAT GOD INTENDED IN THE GARDEN
Psalm 23:6 CSB
Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live.
HE HAS REDEEM US TO LIVE IN HIS PRESENCE
