Does God value hunger?
What kind of Hunger is God looking for?
How de we get hungry?
Matthew 5:6 (NASB95)
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Being hungry for self-centered things will never satisfy.
Being hungry to be close to God and be empowered to draw others close to God, will be satisfied.
Being Hungry:
Being hungry is not a bad thing.
Have you ever done some sort of exhausting job or workout then eaten right afterwords? The food is so satisfying after a hard workout.
We were created to be hungry from time to time. This hunger drives us to go for more.
Holy Hunger:
I have seen Holy Spirit show up to hungry people all my life.
I have seen groups of people lose their hunger for God and not much ever seems to happen with those groups.
I believe that God is drawn to the hungry heart who seek Him.
Another term is Waiting On the Lord.
Isaiah 40:31 (NASB95)
31 Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
There is a Holy Hunger that draws Holy Spirit to be near.
I feel God calling out and looking for those who hunger and thirst for more of Him.
How to get hungry:
I can think of two dominant ways to get hungry for more:
Go with out for a while.
Taste something good but not unto satisfaction.
What are some ways to get hungry?
Feeding on something that is good can grow hunger for more:
Testimonies
Experiencing the presence of God.
Reading the bible and the stories in the bible.
Praying and praying in tongues
meditating on what God gives you.
There are times in our lives where we go without for a while.
Then there are times in our lives where we have tasted something good from God once.
Some times it means we need to stop satisfying ourselves with things that never really satisfy.
Sometimes we need to cut out eating, drinking or other kinds of feeding like what we consume with our eyes and ears.
The number “40” is associated with a period of waiting.
40 days, 40 years, etc...
40 is associated with “expected waiting.
Israel was waiting to go into the promised land for 40 years.
Jesus fasted 40 days.
Moses was broken into 40 year segments.
Some bible stories that came to mind:
Noah and the ark for forty days and many more before they found ground and they would have been hungry for land and fresh food.
Jonathan was leading Israel to war agains the Philistines. His dad and King Saul made a vow that no one shall eat anything before they destroy the Philistines or they will be put to death. Jonathan dipped his spear into some honey and he was revived. They had a great victory that day.
The people convinced King Saul to save Jonathan’s life.
Israel was led into the wilderness for forty years and only got to eat two things mana and some birds.
Jesus was led into the wilderness for forty days not eating anything. He said man live on more then just bread but by every word that comes from Father.
(Matt 4:1-4)
Acts 2:1–4 (NASB95)
1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
The upper room where Holy Spirit was given.
Jesus appeared to 500 over the forty days he walked the earth after His resurrection. Only 120 where in the upper room when Holy Spirit came.
The 120 people were found hungry for what Jesus promised.
The holy hunger that was in the 120 allowed Holy Spirit to start a movement in one day.
Three thousand were added in one day, including devout Jews.
Your hunger and thirst for more of Holy Spirit will make space for a fresh outpouring of Holy Spirit.
Your hunger and thirst for more of Holy Spirit can even move the religious to experience more of God’s powerful love.
Our comforts can cause us to feel like we are full and or satisfied.
Fulfillment only comes from God and Him working through us.
Closing:
Do you feel like Holy Spirit is asking you to be hungry for more of God?
The holy hunger that was in the 120 allowed Holy Spirit to start a movement in one day.
There is a Holy Hunger that draws Holy Spirit to be near.
God wants you to hunger so you will be satisfied.
Blessed are those who hunger for more of God and to be close to Him.
Blessed are those who wait on the Lord for their strength will be renewed. You can grow your hunger by several ways.
Going with out for a while.
Tasting something good to inspire wanting more.
Seeing others receive from God.
Activation:
Holy Spirit, would You create a hunger for more of You in me?
How do You want me to grow the hunger in me?
Holy Spirit could ask you to fast, pray or read the bible.
Holy Spirit could ask you to stop absorbing other unsatisfying things.
Holy Spirit could ask you to find another group of hungry people to visit and bring back that same hunger.
