The Lord was speaking to his disciples in the midst of a crowd. His address was primarily to His followers.
Tomorrow many will be watching the sky for the solar eclipse (April 8, 2024). Some of have said it is a sign of the rapture or judgment. However, Christ is coming when not expected.
How do we live today in light of the Lord’s return.

The parable was to encourage a state of readiness for the return of the Lord Jesus.
The waist girded means ready to run, lamps burning means prepared.
The picture of the Jewish wedding. The bridegroom would pay the bride price, then depart to prepare a place for his new bride. He would return to take his bride and bring her to his house.
Living with the expectation of Christ’s return is called the blessed hope.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
If you have doubt about an activity you are involved in, just ask yourself; would I be ashamed if the Lord returned at this very moment? The reality is that He is with you!

The second picture is one of a steward who is given responsibility over a portion of the master’s house.
This blessing for the faithful steward. He is given more responsibility and the approval of the Master.
There is a story told of the craftsmen who designed the great Notre Dame Cathedral finished the backside of sculptors high up. Do your work as unto the Lord, even if he alone can see it.
Colossians 3:23–24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (an instruction given to bondservants).
What has God called you and me to be faithful in until he returns?
Teachers be faithful to teach the Word of God, not man’s opinion.
Servants be faithful in your service.
Parents / grandparents be faithful to pass on the faith.
A wise man once said that we should live as if Christ were to return today, and plan as if it will be 100 years from now. What are you doing today that will matter in 100 years, and will matter in eternity?
