Paul founded the Christian church in Philippi during his second missionary journey, around AD 49-51, which is recorded in Acts 16:12-40.
His visit to Philippi was marked by the conversion of Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth, and the dramatic exorcism of a slave girl, which led to Paul and Silas's imprisonment and subsequent miraculous release.
Paul might have wrote the letter to the Philippian church while he was in prison.
Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Paul was confident in his God - “He” (God) who began a good work…
Began: to begin (start) v. — to take the first step or steps in carrying out an action.
When it comes to my salvation… God is the initiator…
Adam is the perfect example
God’s love for me is indescribable
Paul tells us that God has began a “good work” in me…
This is different!
Ephesians 2:10 ESV
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Work: duty n. — work that a person is obliged to perform for moral or legal reasons.
This work deals with my work of service or duty…
This is how I let my light shine!
This is are “work” for him as his representative…
But Paul is talking to the Philippian church about the “work” that God is during within us!
work (product) n. — a product produced or accomplished through the effort or activity or agency of a person or thing.
God is producing his product…
This is why Transformation is happening in your life…
So if Jesus has returned yet.. That means we are still in the production process!
