Very important to first understand what it does not mean
Having an uncontrollable force take over your mind and body accompanied with fainting, shouts and/or spastic movements saying incomprehensible, unrecognizable utterances.

giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

The Spirit is initially Passive in Everyone
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
What is the power for Salvation!

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
