TRUTH ABOUT GOD
Jesus is the Lord God who rules the raging sea..
TRUTH FOR MY LIFE
Since Jesus can sleep during a great tempest, I do not need to fear a storm.
18Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, when even was come, he saith unto them,Let us go over unto the other side. 23And when he was entered into a boat, his disciples followed him. 36And leaving the multitude, they take him with them, even as he was, in the boat. And other boats were with him. 37And there ariseth a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the boat, insomuch that the boat was now filling with water, and were in jeopardy38And he himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion: and they awake him, and say unto him, Teacher, carest thou not that we perish? 39And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful? have ye not yet faith? And being afraid they marvelled, saying one to another, Who then is this, that he commandeth even the winds and the water, and they obey him?
Good day
Good day and you know it.
Disciples having a good day. Jesus was popular! Folks coming. jesus got into their boat to separate himself and for acoustics and he had taught! Parables breaking it down and explaining the finer pts of the Kingdom of God.
Get the picture.. A Great day on the edge of the lake, Beautiful day on the lake
Deep
Right at the edge of the deep! The deep where just a few days before he had told peter to Luke 5:4 (KJV)
4, Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught.
The deep was not a place to be. It harbored every bad thing imaginable. In Hebrew it is Tehome meaning bottomless or abyss. In Greek is abussos from which comes the word abyss. This is word behind bottomless pit in Rev. Not a good place..
The bible opens with darkness being on the face of the bottomless pit and the Spirit of God moving on the face or the TOP EDGE of the abyss. It is not being sucked down. It is fluttering on the face of the waters.
Jonah tells the frightened sailors to cast me into the sea and then prays that thou has cast me into the deep and the depth(abyss) closed me round about. He sank into the abyss...
Nothing could be more terrifying to a Jew than this. The sea was a place of terror to the landlocked Jewish people. Fisherman were the bravest of the brave or most stupid. (There is a guy in South Dakota that gets paid to change lightbulbs.)
Story Detail
So these fishermen are sitting in their boat enjoying the teaching of Jesus and at even Jesus says lets go to the other side. they would have headed out around the sides to the other side and other boats went with them. After a long day Jesus was exhausted and took a nap.
Here comes the storm
Then a storm arose. I have always thought that these were frequent but not so at least now in my research. The last significant storm was 32 yrs ago in 1992. (describe)
since the surrounding topography lends itself to sudden weather changes. The sea is some 680 feet below sea level. It is surrounded by hills, the steepest of which lie on its eastern shore. Coming through the hills, cool air reaches a ravine and collides with trapped warm air over the water
These storms could be viciously strong. Almost hurricane force winds blowing up 10 ft tall waves. all this coming at a 25 ft long boat and about 7 ft wide or so. This boat was BOUNCING!
and the abyss was very REAL!!! Luke says they were in Jeopardy! Frantically bailing water and getting filled with water from each crash of the waves....
Fear
They are AFRAID. A few chapters later when Jesus walked on the water during a strong wind and the disciples were terribly afraid that they were seeing a spirit rising from the abyss.
hurricane that tracked inland (my witness)
Jesus
Jesus asleep in the boat on the surface of the water. Again the Spirit of God is moving on the face or the TOP EDGE of the abyss. It is not being sucked down. It is fluttering on the face of the waters.
They finally wake him up MASTER Dont you care that we are about to be destroyed? No doubt thinking their worst fear has arrived. The Abyss is here!
God speaks!
Then he woke up and said. He didnt cry out. He didnt pray. He didnt take a moment to get himself in the proper meditative mood. He just spoke!
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. (and it was so from vs 7)
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
And Jesus said PEACE! BE Still! and it was so. There was a great calm. AND IT WAS SO!
Psalm 89:8–9 (KJV 1900)
8  O LORD God of hosts,
Who is a strong LORD like unto thee?
Or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
9  Thou rulest the raging of the sea:
When the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
Psalm 107:23–31 (KJV 1900)
23  They that go down to the sea in ships,
That do business in great waters;
24  These see the works of the LORD,
And his wonders in the deep(abyss).
25  For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,
Which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26  They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths (abyss):
Their soul is melted because of trouble.
27  They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits’ end.
28  Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble,
And he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29  He maketh the storm a calm,
So that the waves thereof are still.
30  Then are they glad because they be quiet;
So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
These disciples saw this with their own eyes! The abyss was dominating and calling. There seemed to be no escape. then Jesus spoke! He spoke and there was a great calm.
Who is this man!
Scripture says:
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
WHO IS THIS MAN?
29  He maketh the storm a calm,
So that the waves thereof are still.
30  Then are they glad because they be quiet;
So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Story Continues
They reach the other side.
Demoniac (2-matthew)
He needed help. 2000 demons couldnt keep him from coming to Jesus. HELP ME!
Jesus did. The demons in the man according to Luke besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep (abyss) They requested to be sent into some pigs feeding. Jesus allowed them. In a wonderful twist, the pigs decided other wise. They ran straight into the sea. (sooeycide) The thing that the demons were trying to avoid is exactly where the wound up.
Reason for the struggle
Disciples had to face their worst fears and were deathly afraid during the experience of the trip. They had to experience the agony of very truly being very close to perishing. however there was a reason for the trip.
Jesus was bringing his disciples to meet two tormented men. These men were hurting, they were alone, they were in desperate need of help. Jesus used the very thing that the disciples had to go through and endure to deliver the men to whom he had brought them.
The thing that caused them to fear for their very lives and face one of the most terrifying moments of their lives proved the deliverance method for the lost and hurting.
Jesus in both situations
The disciples truly faced a terrifying time period that seemed as if there was no deliverance. The demoniacs had truly faced mental, physical, emotional, and societal torture and no one thought they could be delivered.
The common element was Jesus.
The disciples had to ride the storm, they had to face the fear. They were soaked to the bone, working as hard as they could to stay afloat atop the abyss that was trying to drag them down. then they turned to Jesus and from him came deliverance.
The demoniacs were on the shore and didnt have to face the fear that the disciples did butThe demoniacs had anguish and torture often being bound with literal chains living in darkness and death. When they had an opportunity, they came running to Jesus dragging every devil that had ever tormented them. When they came to Jesus from him came deliverance.
The disciples were saved FROM the abyss and the demoniacs were completely delivered by the by the abyss.
Micah 7:19 (KJV 1900)
Micah 7:18 (KJV 1900)
18  Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity,
.....
19  He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us;
He will subdue our iniquities;
And thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. (abyss)
What we face and our situations
If we face unimaginable events that occur in our lives, Jesus is in the boat. The Spirit of God moves on top of the Abyss in the coldest darkest events of our life. He is never in danger of being submerged.
if we are led to people that have had unimaginable tortured lives and Jesus is with us. He often uses the experiences in which we felt as if we were going to perish as a delivery vehicle. God will often prepare us for new victories for his kingdom by having us go through immense trials. Following Jesus through the trials allows us to see his deliverance of others.
If we have lived a life of torture and misery, the one and only answer is to grab every demon that has plagued us and bring them to Jesus and let him cast them into the abyss.
Conclusion
No matter if we are in the boat with Jesus or on the shore without him what we need is Jesus. In the storm, through the storm, by the storm Jesus is the answer.
Jesus is the Lord God who rules the raging sea regardless if the raging is outside or inside
26  They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths (abyss):

27  They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits’ end.
28  Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble,
And he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29  He maketh the storm a calm,
So that the waves thereof are still.
30  Then are they glad because they be quiet;
So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
