As we go through this sermon series God had me change things up a bit. We are going to the third part of the series and we will do the second part next week because I believe God is giving this word to our towns.
Mark 9:23 NKJV
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
The term possible here comes from the greek term Dunata which is the same root word as the term Dunamis which we will talk about next week.
Dunata- Powerful/ Capable/ full of potential
The reason I am preaching this sermon this weekend is because UNITY seems to be the underlying call of this church and the town. I read a post from our reelected Mayor JASON TePaske about the divide that has plagued this town and it’s people and his desire for unity.
As such unity starts with our governing officials.
Romans 13:1 ESV
1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
Unity starts with a clear view of our authority. These men and women that we honored this morning are our governing authorities and it starts with lifting them up and coming along side them to hep in any way we can. If we do our job well and reach our communities for Jesus than their job should become boring.
Mark 9:23 NKJV
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
In order for this verse to be true we must be believers. That means we have to follow God’s commands and it starts with honoring those who honor is due and respecting and those who God placed over us.
A person who embodies the term Dunata
Views the world through the lens of possibilities.
God has a purpose and plan for this town as well as the surrounding towns and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit we can breathe life into the plans God has for us and the town. But it takes bible believing, bible following Christians.
2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
The term able comes from the Greek word Dunatos, which also comes from Dunamis.
Dunatos-power and influence which results to and from wealth.
and the word ABOUND means to super abound in excess.
As we learn to speak the things God has planned for us we can learn to unlock not only our potential, but also the potential of the towns we live in. We can help our area go from surviving to thriving.
Genesis 26:12-13 gives us this prime example.
Genesis 26:12–13 (ESV)
12 And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold. The Lord blessed him,
13 and the man became rich, and gained more and more until he became very wealthy.
Many believe that 100 fold is 100X’s the amount. So if we so $10 we would reap $1,000, but this isn’t what the verse is saying.
To understand this if we take a piece of paper and fold it in half you would have 2 sections.
3x- four sections.
30x 1,073,701,824 sections
60 1, 151, 973,021,073,889,216
1 Quintillion 150 quadrillion, 973 trillion, 21 billion, 73million, 889thousand 216.
100x= 1,201,064,595,207,167,685,882,431,343,616
1 nonillion, 201 octillion, 64 septillion, 594 sextillion, 207 quintillion, 167quadrillion, 685 trillion,m 882 billion, 431 million343 thousand 616.
a hundred fold for the Jewish people back than was a number without measure.
Last week we talked about how God has this amazing plan for his people. This plan started with receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and savior.
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
The acceptance of Jesus starts the journey of Salvation. He died for the forgiveness of our sin so that once we can receive God we can have a relationship with Him.
But Pastor- I know saved people and they don’t live like this.
The reason is because they aren’t fully embracing the truths God has for them. God desires to give you good things, if he didn’t he wouldn’t have declared it.
James 1:17 ESV
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
We access those gifts in several ways.
You have to believe
Mark 9:23 NKJV
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
We talked about what possible already meant- but it’s give to those who believe
THER Greek term for believe here is Pistis which actually means straining toward something. It’s an active believe not a passive belief
The hard truth is this:
Some believers don’t believe the entire bible is true for them.
They say things like: It’s for them back then. It’s for you not me. .They don’t believe the promises God has for them. You have to believe
2. You have to declare
That’s the entire reason for this series. Your declaration matters.
Psalm 81:10 TPT
10 I am your only God, the living God. Wasn’t I the one who broke the strongholds over you and raised you up out of bondage? Open your mouth with a mighty decree; I will fulfill it now, you’ll see! The words that you speak, so shall it be!
We have the decree we can speak into existance. Where do we get these words
John 6:63 (TPT)
63 “The Holy Spirit is the one who gives life, that which is of the natural realm is of no help. The words I speak to you are Spirit and life. But there are still some of you who won’t believe.”
The difference in living this lifestyle is that you need to be able to know the scriptures so that you can proclaim them. This requires you to have a personal relationship, not a religious relationship with Jesus Christ.
A religiousnrelationship is boiled down to rules and following them. A personal relationship comes for a desire to know who God is on a personal level. A friendship level. This level takes time and work.
Mark 11:24 ESV
24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
3. You have to receive
John 16:24 ESV
24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
This is why I teach my kids to end their prayersin in the name of Jesus. The two terms ask are two different terms. 1. Asked nothing. This term comes fromm the greek form meaning equals. Only Jesus kcould ask as an equal. Only Jesus can come to God on a level playing field. The second term ask is one coming to someone of a higher level. When we ask in the name of Jesus we are asking someone on a higher level to seek God as an equal. The difference is if my kids ask for my Credit card i will laugh at them. If they go to my wife and my wife comes and asks for my credit card she will get it.
Asking something in Jesus’ name has a couple of value points
It makes you constantly aware or brings to rememberance of who he is and what he is capale of.
It gives us the ability to act as His representative in Earth. The police officers aren’t the courts or the law, but when in their position they can act on the courts behalf and with the courts authority as long as they follow the courts rules. The same is true with Jesus. We walk in Jesus’ authority.
so what are the rules
Our request must reflect the character of Jesus.
It must demonstrate faith- because Jesus lived by faith
reveal a sincere desire to honor God and Jesus.
