Belize 2024 Report

History of Mayan Religions and San Felipe Village
Mayan religions- animism and multiple gods. Human sacrifice.
1502- Spain makes contact with Mayans and begins forcing to convert to Catholicism
they burn at stake those who made chocolate as witchcraft
150 years later England claims the area known today as Belize. (Was British Honduras)
Freedom for missionaries but it is not a populous nation and not a priority.
San Felipe is a small village with two Protestant churches- both very charismatic. Pentecostal holiness and International House of Prayer. Also Mennonites in the area.
Why does it matter what protestant churches are there. Because many in the village have been turned off by the strange, weird, crazy practices happening in those churches.
There is a strong cultural Christianity along with these extreme churches that is keeping the people of the area from giving their life to Jesus.
The Schools— Prayer and Bible passages on the wall.
The National Prayer—Almighty and Eternal God, who through Jesus Christ has revealed Your Glory to all nations, please protect and preserve Belize, our beloved country.
God of might, wisdom and justice, please assist our Belizean government and people with Your Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude.
Let the light of Your divine wisdom direct their plans and endeavours so that with Your help we may attain our just objectives. With Your guidance, may all our endeavours tend to peace, social justice, liberty, national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge.
We pray, O God of Mercy, for all of us that we may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of Your most holy law, that we may be preserved in union and in that peace which the world itself cannot give. And, after enjoying the blessings of this life, please admit us, dear Lord, to that eternal reward that You have prepared for those who love You.
Amen.
GEORGE CADLE PRICE
People call themselves Christians but do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. They are skeptical of the church. God of Bible has been molded with Catholicism, Anglicanism, and Mayan beliefs.
This is the culture that we walked into.
This calling to go to Belize did not come from me. Larry Marshal has been going down the last couple of years and began engaging the people of the village. He has passed out many Gideon Bibles and saw the need for a strong Bible believing church in the area.
Larry planned and led this trip and did an amazing job.
Ephesians 4:11–16 ESV
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
I took on the equipping role and trusted Larry to step up and he led well.
God put together a great team- Everyone used their gifts and everything we needed was available.
The first day everyone wanted to do everything.
The heat killed this. But this helped us to stay in our lane and do what was our responsibility well.
We accomplished more together.
Last day- we gave every person available a small group of the older kids to share the Gospel and give them an opportunity to ask questions and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior.
My group- two younger kids, “have you ever sinned?” They answered no and I could not convince them otherwise. But the older one asked some good questions and was ready to accept Jesus.
CONCLUSION
Cultural Christianity will not get you or anyone else to heaven.
You have to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
God needs you to be obedient to serve him here and wherever he may call you around the world.
