Judges 11: The Danger of Rash Vows
The era of Jephthah’s leadership in Israel is yet another dark period of Israel’s history. Jephthah tries to manipulate God through a rash vow, and the consequences could have very easily truned tragic.
We learn from Jephthah what we should not do! We should never attempt to manipulate God into doing our bidding. Christians should never presume that God must meet our needs, nor should we expect God to comply with our selfish agendas. Rather, Christians are called to focus on God’s will rather than our own (see Matt. 6:7–10; Luke 22:42; James 4:3, 15).
