Intro:
Today, we are starting what we are calling “90 Days of #BECOMING”
I believe that God is going to do something over these next 90 days....Feb 26-May 25th
My prayer is that....
HE WOULD #BECOME more KNOW TO US THAN EVER BEFORE!
WE WOULD #BECOME more IN LOVE WITH JESUS THAN EVER BEFORE!
WE WOULD #BECOME more OBEDIENT TO JESUS THAN EVER BEFORE!
What would your life looked like.....
IF YOU RADICALLY GAVE YOUR LIFE TO JESUS FOR THE NEXT 90 DAYS!
THAT YOUR ONLY ANSWER TO GOD WOULD BE YES!!!
What would our church look like......
IF WE READICALLY GAVE OUR LIVES TO JESUS FOR THE NEXT 90 DAYS!
If we listened harder than ever before!
If we prayed harder than ever before!
If we gave more generously than ever before!
If we Sung more joyfully than ever before!
If we went more missionally than ever before!
Will you consider joining us for these 90 DAYS OF #BECOMING!
I will walk through it more practically in a bit....But I desire that we already enter this time prayerfully!
CORPORATE PRAYER TIME!
I believe today, we will see an example of who we are to #BECOME....
And that example is JESUS CHRIST!
We have been walking through the Gospel of John for the last 8 weeks!
We have been introduced to Jesus...
We have listened into several conversations that He has had.
We have read about a couple different miracles up to this point!
We left off last week with Jesus simply speaking the words....GET UP AND WALK....
And a man whose bones, muscles, and nerves that had been decaying for 38 years obey at the direction of His voice!
8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”
9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.
10 The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”
Can you imagine this....
Jesus just heals a lame man who hadn’t walked in 38 years......
And the Jews dont focus on the miracle that Jesus just performed…BUT RATHER critique the 38 yeared healed lame man for walking with his mat on the SABBATH.
16 For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath.
And what comes next…gives us a beautiful example of who we are to #BECOME IN CHRIST!
But first, we must remind ourselves who Christ is!...
I. Jesus is ONE with the FATHER. (John 5:17-39)
I. Jesus is ONE with the FATHER. (John 5:17-39)
Jesus was One with the Father in His WORK! (5:17-30)
We learn a couple things here....
Jesus’ Work was fully submitted to God the Father’s Will. (5:17-19)
17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”
18 Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
The Son can do nothing of Himself....but only what he sees the father do…He does in like manner!
Jesus was a perfect reflection of God the Father!
This means that Jesus watched for the Father’s work and JOINED HIM!
Think about the Garden of Gethseminee....
Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me.....BUT NOT MY WILL, BUT YOURS BE DONE!
This submission the the Father’s Will........is the same thing we are called to do....
Over the next 90 DAYS OF #BECOMING....we must WATCH what the Father is doing and JOIN HIM!
This Work of the Father and Son will AMAZE US! (5:20)
20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
Just as Jesus has been promising from the Wedding at Cana.....GREATER WORKS WILL THE FATHER SHOW.....
He says we will MARVEL at them and be AMAZED!
Again, my prayer is that we will MARVEL and BE AMAZED at the GREATER THINGS in the next 90 DAYS OF #BECOMING!
This work is about Giving LIFE! (5:21-30)
21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
23 that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,
27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.
28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice
29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
Jesus has been sharing this truth in our SAGA of Conversations up to this point!
He told Nicodemus he had to be BORN AGAIN.....Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have EVERLASTING LIFE!
He told the Samaritan Woman that he could give LIVING WATER that would spring up in her a fountain of EVERLASTING LIFE!
TODAY, HE LAYS IT ALL OUT THERE....
The SON OF GOD....THATS ME BY THE WAY.....GIVES LIFE!
He says in verse 24, HE WHO HEARS MY WORD AND BELIEVES in HIM WHO SENT ME has EVERLASTING LIFE....HAS PASSED FROM DEATH TO LIFE!
AND OH YEAH....IF YOU THINK THAT'S COOL....just wait......
Now is the hour of those passing from SPIRITUAL DEATH TO SPIRITUAL LIFE....
BUT AN HOUR IS COMING....when every GRAVE will hear HIS VOICE and COME FORTH!
Jesus has always been about GIVING LIFE!!!
He created us and BREATHED LIFE INTO US!
We rejected and rebelled AGAINST GOD.....LOSING LIFE AND BRINGING ON DEATH!
And now through CHRIST....SPIRITUAL LIFE is GIVEN....ITS AN ABUNDANT LIFE
AND IN THAT IS OFFERED ETERNAL, EVERLASTING LIFE!
There have been many TESTIMONIES of Christ’s ONENESS with God! (5:31-39)
The Testimony of John (33-35)
33 You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.
34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.
35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.
The voice in the Wilderness promised in the Old Testament had come.....
He said, you even rejoiced in his light for a time!
He TESTIFIED about ME!!!! THE CHRIST.....the LAMB OF GOD!!!!
The Testimony of the Signs and Wonders (36)
36 But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.
The signs and wonders of Jesus were STAMPS OF AUTHORITY upon HIS WORK!
They testified that HE WAS THE CHRIST!
The Testimony of the Father (37-38)
37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.
38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.
At this point, God had already spoken verbally from Heaven when Jesus was BAPTIZED!
He will do this at the Mount of Transfiguration as well!
EVEN THE FATHER HAS TESTIFIED OF CHRIST!
The Testimony of Scripture (39)
39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
Jesus says the irony of it all.....is that the ONE PLACE YOU SEARCH THE MOST.....THE SCRIPTURES.....
THEY TESTIFY OF ME THROUGHOUT!
One of the most fascinating things in your Christian growth is to find these testimonies throughout the Old Testament!
JESUS IS ONE WITH THE FATHER!
ONE WITH THE FATHER IN HIS WORK!
THERE ARE MANY TESTIMONIES OF the ONENESS WITH GOD!
This next and final point is what brings us back to our 90 DAYS OF BECOMING ONE IN CHRIST
II. We are to #BECOME ONE IN the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT! (John 5:40-47; 17)

In chapter 5, Jesus says, “You are not willing to come to me that you may have life.”
40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
41 “I do not receive honor from men.
42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.
43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.
44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?
45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust.
46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.
47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”
Jesus ends this chat in Chapter 5 with....You are not willing to come to me that you may have life.....
You see, there were will to come and accuse Jesus....come and correct the ways of Jesus....
BUT NOT WILLING TO COME TO JESUS THAT THEY MAY HAVE LIFE!
He said they did not have THE LOVE OF GOD IN THEM!
THEY WOULD NOT RECEIVE HIM....NOR BELIEVE HIM!
Goes back to John 1:12 “12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”
THEY WOULD NEVER #BECOME.....Because they had not recieved him or believed Him!
However, later in the Gospel of John (17) comes a complete contrast to these last few verses!
In chapter 17, Jesus Says, “May they all be ONE, as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. May they also be in Us...”
3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.
7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.
8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.
The work of the Father, he was joining in chapter 5....is finished here in chapter 17:4.
There were those who would not receive or believe Jesus in chapter 5....and chapter 17 has THOSE THAT RECEIVED AND BELIEVED JESUS WAS FROM THE FATHER
And then Jesus prays for those that would come to believe....us!!!!!!
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
AND WHAT IS HIS PRAYER.....THAT WE WOULD #BECOME ONE, AS THE FATHER IS IN JESUS, AND JESUS IN THE FATHER. THAT WE BE ONE IN THEM!
THIS IS ONE OF THE MIRACLES OF OUR CHRISTIAN WALK....
WE GET TO BE ONE IN CHRIST, THE FATHER, and THE HOLY SPIRIT!
90 DAYS of #BECOMING!
Mission: That we would EXPERIENCE, CONNECT, and RESPOND TO THE GOSPEL!
Experience the Gospel.
Becoming a more Faithful “Gatherer” with your church (Come more than you miss for 90 days)
Becoming a Student of the Word (Read NT in 90 days)
Connect through the Gospel.
Becoming Involved in a Small Group (Join a Sunday School class for next 90 days)
Becoming a more Faithful Witness of the Gospel (Invest/Invite/Involve your “ONE”)
Respond to the Gospel.
Becoming more a more Generous Steward (Give $100 more per month per family for 90 days)
Becoming a Servant of the Lord (Serve in one of Friendship’s Ministries for next 90 days)
