Recession Proof: Only two investments needed.
What if I told you that you could Recession Proof your finances.
Everyone one loves a good stock tip.
Two investments: Heavenly and Earthly
Matthew 6:19–21 NIV
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Vs. 21: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Where should invest first. In your heavenly acct.
Matthew 6:19–20 NIV
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
What does it mean to lay up treasures in heaven? It means to use all that we have for the glory of God. It means to “hang loose” when it comes to the material things of life. It also means measuring life by the true riches of the kingdom and not by the false riches of this world.
1 Timothy 6:7 NIV
7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.
You don’t see Uhal trucks at funerals.
How much should I invest in the Kingdom acct? Well do you want to follow the old testament or new testament model?
Tithe / 10% - Old Testament /
Leviticus 27:30 NIV
30 “ ‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.
Old Testament Law required multiple tithes for the Levites, temple operations and feasts, and the poor and unfortunate. In total, tithes came out to 20-30% of incoming money, plus any additional voluntary giving of first-fruit and freewill offerings.
New Testament Giving
2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV
7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Each of you should give
Decide in you heart how much / remembering where your treasure is your heart will be also.
What percentage you give could be a indicator of where your heart is.
Why should I give?
One it is all his anyways. Christians believe that we are just managers of what God has given to us.
Psalm 24:1 NIV
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;
Psalm 89:11 NIV
11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.
It is fun. People who donate are happier.
Studies using brain-scanning technology show increased activation in the reward area of the brain, when giving to charities. But a 2007 study demonstrated participants had “stronger activation in the brain, when they freely donated to a local charity as compared to making a required donation. A 2010 study found “people experienced happier moods, when they gave more money away—but only if they had a choice about how much to give.”
When you give money away it changes not them but you it's very difficult to find someone who consistently gives week after week after week after week who has the same level of marriage problems as someone who does not give. The reason is it makes you a less selfish person automatically when you give you don't become a less selfish person and then give you give and it makes you. It breaks and reforms your heart every time you give and so you're less selfish and less selfish people are just better husbands they're better wives.
Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can. - John Wesley
God finds ways to replenish what you have given.
Proverbs 3:9–10 NIV
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
Vs. 10: Then your barns / Invest in the Kingdom and you will have money to invest elsewhere.
2 Corinthians 9:6 NIV
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Honor God with what He has given you and watch what He will do. Prayer for a car as a teen. I promise to use it to bless others (take kids to school, take kids to youth group). This is the “God if you do this, I will do this promise”. But God sees what we do with what we have now. If you don’t use what you have right now for God, you can’t be trusted with more. - I started giving before the car.
Where do I invest second? For future/retirement
Wait Pastor reread Matt 6:19
Matthew 6:19 NIV
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Yes we should do that first. But Second the bible is clear we need to invest for the future.
Proverbs 6:6–8 NIV
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
What are they doing… Saving
Proverbs 21:20 NIV
20 The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.
Where do I start investing first: You need an emergency fund.
Diversify your investments verse.
Ecclesiastes 11:2 NIV
2 Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
Ecclesiastes 11:6 NIV
6 Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.
Pay attention to your investments / Teach told me once to pay attention. I am to poor to pay attention.
Proverbs 27:23–24 NIV
23 Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; 24 for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.
Leave them alone and watch them grow.
Proverbs 21:5 NIV
5 The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.

The Simmons: Orange Tree / one seed / one tree / to many oranges / Bless the Pastor
Put you hope in God not wealth.
1 Timothy 6:17 NIV
17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
