This morning we enter into session 5 of our sermon series on Faith That Works
This message is titled Faith that Carries
Why faith that carries? Because our faith has to be in someone that has the capacity to bare us up.
Charles Spurgeon used to tell the story of a fire in the 2nd floor of a house. People gathered in the street and yet a child is in the upper portion of the house and he cannot escape. He cannot jump for it is too far. A strong man comes beneath, and cries, “Drop into my arms.” It is a part of faith to know that the man is there; it is another part of faith to believe that the man is strong. But the essence of faith lies in the dropping down into the man’s arms. That is the proof of faith, and the real pith and essence of it.
Hebrews 11:1–3 ESV
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Are You Sure?!

Hebrews 11:1 ESV
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
We may think of the word substance, especially if we grew up with the KJV.
We may think of the work certainty.
We may think of surety.
Security.
Substantiated.
But all these words are synonymous of the essence of faith.
The promises of God which are in future fulfillment.
Hebrews 3:14 ESV
14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.
Romans 8:25 ESV
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
Hope presupposes faith. We have hope because we believe. And the belief we have sustains.

Faith is the Qualifier

Hebrews 11:2 ESV
2 For by it the people of old received their commendation.
They were commended because they believed God. - Approved
Believed His Word
Believed His Spirit
Believed His Capacity

His Stats = Our Good!

Hebrews 11:3 ESV
3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
It is a worldview.
God spoke into existence all that is.
He has the capacity to draw it up, mold it, shape it, break it, reform it, move it, destroy it, and use it.
There is nothing outside of His capacity.
I believe what God’s Word says about creation.
I believe it because I believe His Word.
His stats of Truthfulness are 100%. He does not speak un-truth.
He is Truth.
He made what was made and called it good and very good.
He sustains what has been made and even pays for it with His own Son.
He restores what was made and He redeems it.
This morning His stats = Our Good.
Because His stats are impeccable as He is impeccable.
People find it hard to believe what they can’t see.
They say, “Yes! I see that mathematical equation or that scientific theory.”
They believe these more than God.
They will argue with you about creation & even the existence of God.
But both are true.
I don’t see wind, but I see its effects.
I don’t see God, but I see His effect and experience it.

Walking Away, But In...

Be Sure!
Believe!
Rejoice!
