When Audrey Martin arrived at a Tennessee church she did not expect to be called onstage, nor did she expect to receive a large tip. When Martin delivered the ten pizzas the church had ordered, the pastor Tony McAfee asked to come on stage and paid her for the pizzas. He then explained that many churches do not tip as well as they should, and challenged the congregation to help give Martin a good tip in the spirit of the holidays. The church collected nearly $1,400 to give as a tip. McAfee said they decided to bless someone because they wanted to show how thankful they were for God’s goodness. Martin is a single mom who depends on her delivery job to make ends meet for her family. She said now she would be able to give her children a good Christmas and a better place for her kids to live. Martin wiped tears away as the congregation came forward to contribute to the tip. Pastor McAfee said he wanted her to know they appreciated her. He added, “One of the greatest ways to illustrate our faith is action. Faith without works in dead.”—Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell

James 2:17–18 (HCSB) “In the same way faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith from my works.”
