Gary Alexander has lived in the small town of Wingo, Kentucky all of his life. He remembers hearing the stories about how several downtown buildings were built in the late 1890s. More than one hundred years later, Alexander was hired to demolish the buildings and reuse some of the materials. When the dust settled after the demolition, the wall of one building was still standing, and Alexander made an interesting discovery. Written on that wall was a verse from the Bible, John 6:47. Alexander said as a believer that means a lot to him. The wall was still standing, though the rest of the building was in pieces. He says there are more than 100 years of memories in the old building and he is allowing residents to take bricks as souvenirs. Alexander says he does not plan to tear the wall down, and he hopes whoever buys the lot will preserve it too. He added, “People are coming from all over taking pictures of it.”—Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell.
