The Best Gifts?

The Best Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:1 NKJV

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:

1) These are the Gifts of THE HOLY SPIRIT. 2) The Holy Spirit Manifests Himself in LOVE. 3) The Holy Spirit is not FLAKY.
Never Contort something for your personal benefit and call it the Holy Ghost. ( You lie, you lie, you know you lie. ) (Have I not said in my Word? No, he didn't)
1 Corinthians 12:12–14 NKJV

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many.

One Body, Many members. Many members, one body. One Spirit, one body. One Spirit, many Members.
One Holy Spirit. He does not fight with Himself.
One Body. We should not be fighting with ourselves.
Many Members.......... We should not be fighting within ourselves. It is a serious matter.
In spite of all the problems within the Corinthian Church, the gifts were flowing.

1 Corinthians 1:4–5 NKJV

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge,

Notice first, what Paul was thankful for. The Grace of God. The Grace enriched them in everything.

πλουτίζωb: to cause someone to have an abundance of that which is of value or worth—‘to make rich in, to cause to have an abundance of.’ ἐν παντὶ ἐπλουτίσθητε ‘you have become rich in all things’ 1 Cor 1:5. In 1 Cor 1:5 the final phrase, ἐν παντὶ λόγῳ καὶ πάσῃ γνώσει, indicates that the abundance refers to both the quantity of messages and the knowledge.

1 Corinthians 1:4–9 NLT

I always thank my God for you and for the gracious gifts he has given you, now that you belong to Christ Jesus. Through him, God has enriched your church in every way—with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge. This confirms that what I told you about Christ is true. Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

This is not a teaching to the Corinthian Church on how to flow in the gifts.
Grace is flowing. The Gifts are operating, so God is obviously pleased. Right?
Does Anointing mean God is pleased? Not always. Sometimes it just means He is Merciful.
Last week: Grieving the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:1–4 NKJV

And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal?

You have envy, strife, and divisions, but the gifts are flowing. Wasn't our service great?
1 Corinthians 5:1–2 NKJV

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife! And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you.

You are sinning worse than the world. Sinners don't even sin this bad.
1 Corinthians 6:1 NKJV

Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the saints?

You are suing one another. and the World is laughing. One more.
1 Corinthians 11:17–18 NKJV

Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse. For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

This is not an endorsement to sin. This is not an grace message where you can do what ever you want to do. This is a clear picture of how much the Holy Spirit wants to manifest Himself on behalf of His people. This is a clear picture of how much He wants his Church to be working together.
Philippians 1:27 NLT

Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.

Now we look at the Gifts He is so ready to give.
1 Corinthians 12:8–11 NKJV

for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

The simplest way to describe these nine gifts it that three of them say something, three of them do something and three of them reveal something.
1) Prophecy
2) Divers Kinds of Tongues
3) Interpretation of Tongues
1)The Gift of Faith 2) The Working of Miracles 3) The Gifts of Healings
1) The Word of Wisdom 2) The Word of Knowledge 3) Discerning of Spirits
1 Corinthians 12:31 NKJV

But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

What is the Best Gift? Depends on the situation.
Look at an example for each of the 3 groups.
Acts 21:8–13 NKJV

On the next day we who were Paul’s companions departed and came to Caesarea, and entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him. Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied. And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. When he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ”

Now when we heard these things, both we and those from that place pleaded with him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, “What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

This is an example of Prophecy: A person is speaking on behalf of HEAVEN. It usually foretells something. Once it was released from Heaven, the prophecy becomes the procession of the person targeted. Verse 12. As the person giving the Utterance Gift, It is not up to an individual to make a word come to pass. The person receiving the word, must judge it.( explain) Verse 13, It confirms something. Thus says the Lord. Go to the North Pole. Is it in your heart? (Amy & Ira background. Physically unable to have children.)
If I were the Holy Spirit, I would have released the Gifts of Healings or maybe the gift of Faith, maybe even the working of miracles. BUT I WASN'T THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Read through. The Holy Spirit knew something I didn't. They didn't need the gifts of healings. They didn't need the Gift of Faith. They had already received healing by their faith. I didn't know that. None of us knew that. Heaven knew. All they needed from me, was a fresh flow of the declaration of Heaven. (Prophecy) Anything else would have confused the moment. Just a couple of months later. standing at the door.
What effect should prophecy, tongues and interpretation have on an individual? (Stir up the Faith. Stir up the joy.) WHAT WAS THE BEST GIFT? The one needed at the moment.
Luke 7:12–15 NKJV

And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.

The Working of Miracles: How would Prophecy have worked out in this situation? How about the word of knowledge? "Thus says the Lord. Your son died from poison mushrooms." The only way that would have benefited her was if they were serving the mushrooms at the wake. How about gifts of healings? Best Gift, The working of Miracles
Do We Have a Promise of Miracles?
First we look at the word translated miracle.

dunamis (δύναμις, 1411) is (a) “power, ability,” physical or moral, as residing in a person or thing; (b) “power in action,” as, e.g., when put forth in performing miracles.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

The New Strong’s Dictionary of Hebrew and Greek Words splagchnizŏmai σπλαγχνίζομαι

σπλαγχνίζομαι splagchnizŏmai, splangkh-nid´-zom-ahee; mid. voice from 4698; to have the bowels yearn, i.e. (fig.) feel sympathy, to pity:— have (be moved with) compassion.

Not just pity. Pity in and of itself is potentially dangerous. (explain)
Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains 25.49 σπλαγχνίζομαι; σπλάγχνα, ων

σπλαγχνίζομαι; σπλάγχναc, ων n (only in the plural): to experience great affection and compassion for someone—‘to feel compassion for, to have great affection for, love, compassion.’

ONLY IN THE PLURAL! What does this mean? Compassion happens when their is a stirring on the inside. The Holy Spirit moving in a way that He feels the pain, but also has the ability to do something about it. That is how the power gifts work. (explain the difference between standing in faith, and being moved with compassion.) At least 5 times in the scriptures, Jesus was moved with compassion resulting in a miracle.

John 4:1–4 NKJV

Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. But He needed to go through Samaria.

John 4:15–18 NKJV

The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”

The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.”

Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”
