Live Loved - obey Jesus What does it mean to live loved? There are ways the Bible gives us ways to test our love. We’ll be looking at these over the next few weeks so we can know that we’re living loved. You are loved. Live loved. One of the ways we can know we are living loved is if we are obeying Jesus. John 14:15-24 You are loved. Live loved. Are you living loved? Do you obey Jesus? I think if I would ask all of us, “are you obeying Jesus?” The response would be “I’m here on a Sunday morning, of course I’m obeying Jesus?” We characterize Jesus, we cartoonize Jesus, we flannel graph Jesus. We make him in an image we’re comfortable with and then we say “yes, I’m obeying him.” Would he say the same thing about us? If we were to give him that space and slow down enough to listen, what would we hear him say? Let His words wash over you. Listen to what he taught. How does your life line up with this? Matthew 5:17-48 You are loved. Live loved. Have you sinned in your anger? What about those leering looks? Do you love your enemies? If we were to go on… not doing your acts of righteousness to be seen by people - giving, praying, fasting you do them before God, not to make a name for yourself. Then he talks about storing up your treasures in heaven and not being able to serve God and money. Then he tells us not to worry about tomorrow…but to seek first His Kingdom and righteousness. Matthew 7:28 - crowds were amazed. He was not spouting platitudes here. He was challenging every thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of God… …if you love me, you’ll obey my commands …whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. …if anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching What about the spoken word? We need to be in the word. We need to let the word clean us. We need to let it be the standard for our life. Matthew 17:24-27 4 drachma coin in fish mouth Peter obeyed. Luke 5:4-11 Start of ministry “but because you say so, I will let down the nets.” “left everything and followed” Peter obeyed. John 21:3-11 After cross “it is the Lord” 153 fish John 2:5 Water into wine “Do whatever He tells you.” You are loved. Live loved. Do whatever He tells you. When your life doesn’t line up with what the Word of God says, confess (agree with God your wrong) and repent (change your mind and go in the opposite direction). Do whatever He tells you. IF it’s wacky, ask somebody who cares for your soul. But don’t delay in waiting for confirmation.
