A New Man For A New Purpose

Colossians 3:12-17

I.            PUTTING ON THE CLOTHING OF FELLOWSHIP. Vs.12

The idea here of putting on something like armour is well known to us because of scripture passages like Ephesians chapter six.

We also have places such as this one where we are to put on a garment of sort.

As a new person in Christ, we are therefore to put on new clothing. This wardrobe we see today is that wardrobe of true fellowship.

            A. Bowels of Mercy – or a heart of compassion.

The Greek here is the same for spleen or intestines. Σπλαγχνα

            B. Kindness – Gentleness in Galatians 5:22

            C. Humbleness of Mind. - Humility

            D. Meekness. – We find the same thing in Ephesians 4:2

E. Longsuffering. – Again, as in the others we find this word as one of the fruit of the Spirit. See also James 5:10.

II.            EXHIBITING THE PERSONALITY OF CHRIST. Vs.13

            A. Forbearing one-another.

            B. Forgiving one-another.

III.            TOPPING IT OFF WITH LOVE. Vs.14

The bond of moral & spiritual perfection.

Bond is συνδεσμος in the Greek = bands, ligaments, see Ephesians 4:3.

The word is referring back to 2:19.
