The Widow’s Mite

A friend gave me this copper coin as a present.  It is called a lepta or a mite.  It was made about 75 years before Jesus was born, but it was the kind of coin that was still being used during Jesus’ time.  Listen to what Jesus had to say:

Luke 21:1-4 (NASB95)
1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. 2 And He saw a poor widow putting in two small copper coins. 3 And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; 4 for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on.”

The rich people put in a lot more money than the widow did.  But Jesus said that they gave from their leftovers.  God doesn’t want our leftovers, he wants the best that we have to offer him.  It does not matter if you don’t have much to give Him if you give Him your best.
