Series: A Heart to Heart Talk with Jesus

(John 14-16)

Title: What to Do When the Right Choice Is not the Easy Choice

(John 14:30-31)

30 “I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. Come now; let us leave.”

John 14:30-31 ESV

  1. Beware of the presence of the enemy.

30 ” . . . for the prince of this world is coming.”

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8 NIV

  1. Remember the limitations of the enemy.

30 “He has no hold over me . . .”

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

1 John 4:4 NIV

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 NIV

  1. Emphasize love for God.

31 “but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father . . .”

But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him.

1 John 2:5 NIV

  1. Make obedience a priority.

31” . . . and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.”

So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

2 Corinthians 5:9 NIV

  1. Be committed to God’s plan.

31” Come now; let us leave.”

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14 NIV
