PRAY
God our Father, we live in a world that continuously feeds us message after message and image after image promising us the best, brightest, shiny and new life, one that is bigger, better and more fulfilling then the dream we were chasing last week. We are bombarded with selfish, unhappy, unfulfilled longings for satisfaction in our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual fulfillments. God you have created us to be creatures who desire satisfaction in all of these areas of our lives and yet we cannot seem to attain them as we continuously seek and never really seem to find. We are tired of longing, tired of seeking, tired of searching and we ask that today you might give us revelation as to where we can find these things. Help us God, we pray.
Amen!

TEXT EXPOSITION

Luke 24:1–9 ESV
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
V1-4
Early on The First Day [Dawn]
Sunday
At dawn - daybreak - day 1 = light over darkness [Gen 1.1-5]
Genesis 1:1–5 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

PHYSICAL FITNESS
Luke 5.31
Luke 5:31 ESV
And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.
1 Cor 9.27
1 Corinthians 9:27 ESV
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
Rom 12.1
Romans 12:1 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
1 Tim 4.8
1 Timothy 4:8 ESV
for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
PHYSICAL FITNESS
Real physical fitness is only found when we are giving ourselves over physically to serving God through Christ.
We are often worried about the appearance of physical fitness, when it is our physical fitness to work and be used that is the real goal of our bodies.
2 Corinthians 5:1–5 ESV
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
MENTAL HEALTH
Rom 12.2
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Eph 4.20-24
Ephesians 4:20–24 ESV
But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Pro 28.26
Proverbs 28:26 ESV
Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
Rom 8.5-8
Romans 8:5–8 ESV
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
MENTAL HEALTH
Real mental health is only gained by the renewing of our minds as we meditate on God’s Word through the power of His Holy Spirit.
Our mental health is directly correlated to the clarity of our worldview as it is based on and driven by the Word of God.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Ps 54.2
Psalm 54:2 ESV
O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.
Ps 140.6
Psalm 140:6 ESV
I say to the LORD, You are my God; give ear to the voice of my pleas for mercy, O LORD!
Mrk 10.21
Mark 10:21 ESV
And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
Heb 4.14-16
Hebrews 4:14–16 ESV
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
2 Cor 1.3
2 Corinthians 1:3 ESV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
We have no greater support emotionally then our Father in Heaven and Christ our saviour. Our Father who created us, see us, knows us and Jesus who sticks closer then a brother.
The Holy Spirit of God dwells in each of us knowing even our most intimate feelings.
SPIRITUAL GUIDENCE
Jhn 9.39
John 9:39 ESV
Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”
Luke 4.18-19
Luke 4:18–19 ESV
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Ps 119.105
Psalm 119:105 ESV
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Matt 9.9
Matthew 9:9 ESV
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.
Matt 28.18-20
Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
SPIRITUAL GUIDENCE
A no brainer for us if you are hearing this today!
There is no other means of spiritual guidance outside of God the Father, through Jesus the Christ, by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
We are spiritual creatures created for spiritual things. You want guidance? Seek and you will find, ask and it shall be given to you, knock and the door will be opened.
Why do you seek the living among the dead?
1 Corinthians 7:31 ESV
and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.
1 John 2:17 ESV
And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

GOAL

Oh beloved, how often are we guilty of this? How often do we forget that this world has nothing to offer us but empty promises? This world does all it can to persuade us, to tempt us, to mislead us, to give us false answers to that which we are seeking. Yet all it really has to offer us is the emptiness we so often feel, the destruction we have witnessed and eventually after all that a death we personally will die. All of us beloved, all of us were designed for more then we are currently experiencing. We are designed for God’s glorious purposes and so I ask you...

For you today maybe this is the 1000th time that you have heard this but...
Present Gospel
For others today is the first time you have heard this good news. So I want to ask everyone again...
“Why do you seek the living among the dead?”
Remember the theme:
“We will only find what we are looking for if we know the what, the where and the when.”
Christ is the what we are seeking. Now is the time when we need Him. As the scripture for today told us the where...
V6
“He is not here, but has risen.”
Stop looking for the living among the dead! Seek the living where He can be found, among the living! God wants for you to not only be satisfied in Him but to abound in the fulfillment that can only be found in Christ. Stop looking for the living among the dead!
GOAL
Seek Him where He is to be found while He is to be found there.

CLOSE

God our father please help us. We so often loose sight of the living Lord Jesus Christ because we instead are focusing on empty tombs.
Oh God, your amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see. My chains are gone, I’ve been set free, Your grace and mercy covers me.
