The meaning of Memorial Day

It is honoring the soldiers that died for our freedom (Difference between Veterans and Memorial). It is not just about BBQ or beach.
They are the few good men! (Movie)
They gave their lives because they were good soldiers.

What does a good soldier look like?

Reliable: Trust that the job will get done
Fearless: Needs to do things that requires faith.
Disciplined: Cannot be lazy! Cannot compromise duty for feeling or other priority.
Consistent: Cannot be lukewarm
Courageous: It takes courage to fight battles
Motivational: Hoorah!!! (Battle Cry)
Submissive; Submit to the chain of command. Follow orders! (Application)

A soldier of Christ is a disciple.

What a good soldier of Christ looks like?
They are faithful
If they are able to teach, they are able to learn.
He is in the battlefield, not in the sidelines.
Not entangled with the things of life (excuses).
Aims to please the recruiter (God) which means submissive.
Sounds like a disciple!
Paul’s reminder of the purpose of the church. . (It is to make disciples).

What is a disciple?

Gr. word “mathetes which means student or follower.
A student or follower of the teacher (Jesus).

It means that you are going to imitate, study, obey and share the instruction of the teacher (Christ) incorporated in your way of life.

Every believer is not a disciple!

There is a difference between a citizen and a soldier of the country.
A citizen lives in the country where freedom was paid , in contrast, a soldier gives his life for the freedom of others. (Sacrifice)
Sounds like church? There those who are citizens, enjoying the freedom and those who are fighting for the Kingdom of heaven (At home, church, work, community).
If you want to be a disciple you have to pay the price. Ask Jesus ()? Notice the term “follow” synonymous to disciple.

The cost of discipleship

The harvest is plenty but the workers are few.
The are few workers, because there are few disciples!
Paul instructs to commit to FAITHFUL men! He did not say believers, but FAITHFUL men!
Why? The task is great and requires a lot of work.
Lack of Sleep, Boldness in Sharing your Faith, Physical-Emotional-Spiritual pain
Lack of Sleep, Boldness in Sharing your Faith, Physical-Emotional-Spiritual pain.
B
What are you willing to deny to be a disciple of Christ?
Billy Graham testimony.

Discipleship is a process

A disciple is trained. () This is why church exists?(Wed, ministry, Sunday School).
Who trains soldiers? (Seasoned soldiers) How? They spend time with them. Jesus did not give Peter a class and said “See you next week”? HE LIVED WITH THEM! ATE WITH THEM! TAUGHT THEM!
Friday Night Fuge Example of parents!
Be a forever student!
Jesus cannot have a disciple who’s interest are divided and keeps looking back (Excuses). Luke 6:61-62
