Why Baptism?
Over the years I’ve received many questions about baptism and being baptized.
Why do I need to be baptized?
Does being baptized make you saved?
Do I need to be baptized to go to heaven?
If I was baptized as an infant do I need to be baptized again?
Can I be a Christian and not be baptized?
My question to you would be…Why you asking these questions?
What does scripture tell us?
Christ was Baptized
Luke 3:
Luke 3:
We see here that Christ was baptized
,
Now we see that John was baptizing with water.
, , , ,
John the Baptist is talking about Jesus in this verse and says that Christ “will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.)
fire being judgment
with the Holy Spirit
we will see in scripture today that it goes repentance, baptism, Holy Spirit.
Repent and be baptized
We will see here that Peter was preaching and when asked what to do he gave them clear instruction.
Now, do we see questions about why, when or how?
No we don’t.
Peter told them what to do and they did it.
Scripture is clear when it instructs us.
Just Do It
I going to date myself here but who remembers when Nike started using the slogan “Just do it?”
It was in 1988 and ever since then Nike has been telling athletes to stop the whining, stop the excuses.
You know what you need to do to get from here to there, so just do it.
We love to come up excuses.
We love to tell everyone who will listen and tough we have it.
My friend…scripture is clear!
The Word of God tells us clearly what to do to get from here (this world) to there (heaven) so just do it!
We are going to look at one more scripture here.
In Acts an Angel tells Philip doesn’t ask questions, he gets moving.
Acts 8:26
Acts 8:26-
An angel of the Lord tells Philip to go, he goes.
No questions.
Acts 8:29
The Spirit of the Lord instructed Philip and he did it.
Again no questions.
Philip explains scripture to the eunuch.
Acts 8:36-
vs. 37 - Some manuscripts include here Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.”
The eunuch answered, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
No excuses, no questions - just obedience.
