Do you remember the curse on Eli’s family because of how his sons dishonered God while performing their priestly roles?
The time is coming when I will put an end to your family, so it will no longer serve as my priests. All the members of your family will die before their time. None will reach old age. You will watch with envy as I pour out prosperity on the people of Israel. But no members of your family will ever live out their days. The few not cut off from serving at my altar will survive, but only so their eyes can go blind and their hearts break, and their children will die a violent death. And to prove that what I have said will come true, I will cause your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, to die on the same day!

What lies does David tell in this chapter
He is on urgent, private business FOR the king.
He is insane - drooling down his beard.
David Goes to Gath. Do you remember anything about Gath.
GATH (גת, gt; “winepress”). One of the five Philistine city-states during the Iron Age. Located in northeast Philistia. Gath was the home of Goliath, the Philistine giant killed by the young David in 1 Sam 17. David twice took refuge in Gath while fleeing from Saul (1 Sam 21:10–15; 27:2–7). During David’s reign, Gath was taken by Israel, but it is mentioned only sporadically in the biblical record. The site appears to have been destroyed by king Hazael of Aram (2 Kgs 12:18). Although it was occupied subsequently, it never returned to its former status.
David is now carrying Goliath’s sword. Do you think anyone in Gath would notice that?

Why is David always a step ahead of Saul?
In our safe place as the reader, we may miss the levels of fear that must be present for David and his followers.

If God has already determined that David is going to be king of Israel...
Why should David have to run from Saul?
