Understand the Attack

The arrows were covered in pitch to do the most damage.
Temptation to sin
Lust - (ESV) All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast 23 till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life.
To doubt God’s Word - Eve
To doubt God’s provision - Satan’s temptation of Christ. “Every temptation .. is the temptation to doubt and distrust God. The purpose of all of Satan’s missiles is to cause believers to forsake their trust in God, to drive a wedge between the Savior and the saved.

Use Your Armour

The shield was large enough to cover a man and covered in leather.
Often the soldiers would soak the leather in water before a fiery attack in order to quench the flames.
How to take up the shield of faith:
Soak your life in the Word.
“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”
Christ sanctifies the church, by the “washing of the water of the word.”
Jesus responded to temptation with the Word of God.
Trust in the Lord in the attack.
Jehoshaphat and Ahab - 2 Chron. 18:28-34
Jehoshaphat cried out to the Lord and was delivered. Ahab trusted his own cunning and was killed.
When you are seeking the Lord you are not afraid to be identified with Him and trust Him.

Gather with other believers in prayer.
The Roman soldier’s did not stand alone, but joined their shields with the soldier’s next to them.
- praying … with all perseverance, for all the saints.
