Notes & Transcripts
Luke 10:1–12 AV
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. 2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. 3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. 5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. 6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. 7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, 11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

AIM
To encourage the Lord’s workers to trust the Lord for strength to do the evangelistic work in sharing the gospel.
INTRODUCTION
In the ninth chapter of Luke we learn Jesus had sent His twelve disciples on a mission of ministry and sharing the gospel. When we get to the tenth chapter of Luke, we learn Jesus sent out another seventy on a similar mission. This is a good indication to us how the ministry of Jesus never changes from one generation to another. He is always sending His disciples to those who are lost and in desperate need to be saved.
PREPARING THE WAY
Luke 10:1 AV
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
Luke 10:1-
David Jeremiah wrote, “In ministry, to labor together is better than to go it alone.” Our responsibility as the disciples of Jesus is to work diligently in preparing the way for His return to this earth.
David Jermiah wrote, “In ministry, to labor together is better than to go it alone.” Our responsibility as the disciples of Jesus is to work diligently in preparing the way for His return to this earth.
PRAYING FOR WORKERS
Luke 10:2 AV
2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
Luke 10:2
Compassion for the lost will compel us in praying for workers to help us reach the lost with the message of the gospel.
Compassion for the lost will compel us in praying for workers to help us reach the lost with the message of the gospel.
Matthew 9:35–38 AV
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 9:35-
PERILS ALONG THE WAY
PERILS ALONG THE WAY
Luke 10:3 AV
3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
,
Jesus sent His workers “as lambs among wolves.” The gospel is always going to be offensive because it contradicts the views of the world.
1 Corinthians 2:14 AV
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians
The Lord’s work is never an easy task because our adversary, the devil, will always be working against us while we labor together.
1 Corinthians 16:9 AV
9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
Jesus gave specific instructions to His disciple in relation to those who would not receive the message of the gospel.
Jesus knew His workers would not always receive a warm welcome while they shared the gospel and ministered to the mulititudes.
Luke 10:10–12 AV
10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, 11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
Luke 10:
Jesus knew His workers would not always receive a warm welcome while they shared the gospel and ministered to the multitudes. Paul is a great example for us because he never allowed the problems he faced to keep him from the mission of Christ or the message of the gospel.
2 Corinthians 4:8–10 AV
8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
2 Corinthians 4:8-
We will always have troubles and trials in our lives, but we must never fail in our mission to share Jesus with a lost world.
PROVISION FOR THE WORK
PROVISION FOR THE WORK
Luke 10:4-
Luke 10:4–9 AV
The Lord always provides for the work to which He has called us.
Philippians 4:19 AV
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:
CONCLUSION
Jesus has sent us two and two for the purpose of working in a great harvest of souls. Sadly, the workers in our generation are few when compared to a generation ago, but we must not quit. We must keep on keeping on in our evangelistic work for the Lord.
