Intro-

The Philadelphia 76ers have been bad at basketball for awhile, it was in the early 2000’s or for most of you a lifetime ago that they were actually winning. Since then it has been one losing season after another, one thing however that comes from this a lot of high draft picks where you are able to pick some really good college players. The fans are getting upset about he losing to which the ownership responded by saying trust the process, Basically trust that we know what we are doing.
prop- As I looked at the apostle philipp this week I couldnt help but see that he was a process guy. He was a guy who had to think through and do everything by the book, He was an instruction manual kind of guy. As we look at how God used Him, we will see how this was both an assset aswell as a hindernce for him and what it means for us.
1. The Man
2. The Mindset
3. The Missing

The Man

His Spot in the Group
He was part of the second group of 12
(ESV)
16 He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); 18 Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
On the 4 list of apostles he is always 5th
It is assumed that means he was leader of second Group
Believed to be a Fisherman
John 21:1–3 ESV
After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
- Didnt know what else to do so they went fishing
It is beleived that Philipp and andrew are the unnamed men
Not sure what to do they went and did what they knew best.
Was from same town as Philip and andrew

The Mindset

(ESV)
Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael
His calling
43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.”
His calling
Called by Jesus
First time we see Jesus Phyicall seeking someone
He Sought all of them -
but here we see the physical pursuit
Called to follow
Called to come after
Called to learn from and be like Jesus
His Response
Went and found His friend
He had great news
John 1:45 ESV
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
Friendship is a great place for sharing Jesus
What did he say had happen?
We have found
What?
Didnt Jesus call him?
Why would he say this?
He was seeking Jesus
He was Faithful in the Word
Listen to his description
Moses in the law talks about
The Prophets wrote
He knew who he was looking for
Part of being a process person, you read all the manuals
His mindset was one of someone who was seeking, seeking knowledge, seeking to know whats next and also one who sought to do what was by the book

The Missing

His calculations
His process personality got in the way
He knew what was humanly possible but forgot what is possible with God
He has been witness to miracles
Water to wine
people healed
He still went back to calculations
Jesus this just isn't feasible
His apprehension
People wanted to meet Jesus
They came to philip
must have know he was close to Jesus
Philip doesnt just take them
He went and found andrew instead
Maybe he wasnt comfortable to just brihng people to Jesus or maybe he didnt know the proper process, but he was aprrehensive to bring them by himself
he didnt leave them hanging though
He knew who could help
Good thing to ask for help
but he was missing the boldness to do it himself

for us:

Are we in the instruction Manual ?
how would we describe Jesus
Are we letting our earthly mindset effect our view of God?
Are Missing the proper vision and boldness ?
