Isaiah 2:5 HCSB
House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the Lord’s light.

The Temple of the Lord

Isaiah 2:1–5 HCSB
The vision that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s house will be established at the top of the mountains and will be raised above the hills. All nations will stream to it, and many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us about His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For instruction will go out of Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will settle disputes among the nations and provide arbitration for many peoples. They will turn their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives. Nations will not take up the sword against other nations, and they will never again train for war. House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the Lord’s light.
A better day is coming.
People will love to worship
In Isaiah’s day, God’s people were drifting further away from the Lord, but Isaiah declared there would come a day, when what they were running from, people would actually flock to.
People will love God’s word. verse 3
And people will love each other. verse 4-5
In Isaiah’s day, they knew war and repeated battles, but in the future there would be no war.
Just when Isaiah had them listening about the good things to come, he drops a bombshell on them.
THEY NEED TO WALK IN THE LIGHT OF THE LORD. The land has prospered under Uziah’s kingship. The future we just read about is incredible, but to enjoy that future and miss out on the judgment, they needed to walk in the light of the Lord.

The Day of the Lord

Isaiah 2:11 HCSB
Human pride will be humbled, and the loftiness of men will be brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.
Current events of Isaiah’s day foreshadowed future events. Assyria ruled over the Northern Kingdom of Israel, and threatened Judah.
7 times “in that day” shows up in chapters 2-4
Man brought low, God exalted 2.11, 17
Cast aside idols 2.20
cast aside responsibilities 3.7
Women cast aside finery 3.18
Responsible men will be scarce 4.1
A day of judgments is also coming.
The catalogue of reason WHY God was going to judge Judah
full of Eastern religion
fortune tellers
Prosperity through bad alliances
Idolatry
The Method of God’s Judgment
Take away
Isaiah 3:1–5 HCSB
Observe this: The Lord God of Hosts is about to remove from Jerusalem and from Judah every kind of security: the entire supply of bread and water, the hero and warrior, the judge and prophet, the fortune-teller and elder, the commander of 50 and the dignitary, the counselor, cunning magician, and necromancer. “I will make youths their leaders, and the unstable will govern them.” The people will oppress one another, man against man, neighbor against neighbor; the youth will act arrogantly toward the elder, and the worthless toward the honorable.
As a result, there is fear, poverty, loss of status, and social upheaval.
Everything will collapse to the point that no one will want to be in charge.
Children and woman will rise up to do what needs to be done, because men will not take responsibility. (What a sign of the times)

The Branch of the Lord

A King will usher it all in .
Isaiah 4:2–6 HCSB
On that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of Israel’s survivors. Whoever remains in Zion and whoever is left in Jerusalem will be called holy —all in Jerusalem who are destined to live — when the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodguilt from the heart of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of burning. Then the Lord will create a cloud of smoke by day and a glowing flame of fire by night over the entire site of Mount Zion and over its assemblies. For there will be a canopy over all the glory, and there will be a booth for shade from heat by day, and a refuge and shelter from storm and rain.
Compare that to 11.1
Isaiah 11:1 HCSB
Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.
Jeremiah 23:5 HCSB
“The days are coming” —this is the Lord’s declaration— “when I will raise up a Righteous Branch of David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land.
Three promises are made for that time
1. Restoration (verse 2
2. Cleansing (verse 3-4)
3. Fellowship with and protection from the Lord (verses 5-6)
Application:
when you think about the the wonderful things that are in store for God’s people in Isaiah 2 and Isaiah 4
And when you think about the judgments in chapter 2-3, it is no wonder that Isaiah would call on the people to
Isaiah 2:5 HCSB
House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the Lord’s light.
God is saying the same thing to those of us who understand the Good news of Jesus.
How close and clean should we walk with the Lord, knowing all that we know about his love and mercy?
Do you know Him?
Do you need cleansing?
Does your life look more like one who is walking in the Lord’s light or a life filled with all the things God says will be judged?
